Kava alone revealed no adverse effects for long-term usage even at a dose of 500 mg/kg bodyweight.

It's not clear from the abstract if they are dosing the mice with whole kava root, or some kind of exctract, but in either case that is a pretty huge dose, especially if it is extract.

But since they were using extract, that really is a huge dose: For an 80 kg human is would be like taking 40 grams of extract.

It certainly is a lot, though I'm not clear on how much of the extract content would be active compounds.

Yeah, but the point is these mice took this huge dose of kavalactones over the long term with no liver damage. That's good experimental evidence to quote for people who believe kava causes liver damage. Now we have pretty good evidence that, by itself, it doesn't.
