What's new

Going for Yearly Blood Testing.

Actually, I like to it more like every 8-9 months. So some people will say, don't do Kava on the day before. I say, maybe the night before. My thinking is that I want my blood to show what it normally shows. I think it is silly to "diet" or change your routine so you can get a good lab result. That's cheating and you are only fooling yourself. What say you?

P.S. I know you should fast that morning of course.

Looking forward to the new results (y)
Both ways of getting tested are good. Getting tested with kava recently in you might show a temporary elevation in numbers, that a doctor might consider suspicious. But there's no way to know if the elevation is temporary, unless you also get tested after having cleaned out for a while before hand. Getting tested in a more abstinent state, is the only way to know if you may have done any permanent or long term damage.
I've grown more suspicious of the kidneys than the liver.

I figure I can do my afternoon Kava and forego the nitecap. Like I said, you want the results that show where your blood is when you do your daily routine. I'm going to guess that my Cholesterol will be around 220 and that I will start taking the second Red Yeast Capsule at night to try to get it to 200. But Cholesterol has always been a problem for me, Kava just aggravates it. And I tell you guys all this stuff so you can compare it to your results. I hate it when a bunch of old guys get together and start bragging about their diet and medicines. "Well I do a 4 grain cereal for breakfast. Aw, that's nothing, I do a 9 grain cereal. Well I got all you guys beat, I eat the new improved Colon Blow III" and so on. But blood test results in this forum are of great interest to us all.

Kava Who?
Well because If my wifes, past conditions (Hepatitis C) She just got her 5 month Blood test, that included a liver test of course. She shows no signs of hepatitis C, nor dose she have any elevated liver enzymes. As You can imagine, this test was very important to us. It basically tells us, If she is cured or not. So far, she is cured. There will be a final test in a month. Anyway, she drank kava the night before her test too. Much love. Roaddog....

Hey Jman while you're having test you may as well have your vitamin D levels tested. Roughly half the population are D deficient. If you've not already had it tested ask for a
25(OH)D or 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test. If you are deficient supplement with D-3 not D-2.

@Noueky. As a matter of fact, last time I had a checkup, we did find out that I was deficient in vitamin D. I take it every day now. They also said I had low testosterone but the Nurse vouched that she didn't believe it and we let that ride. Also, the Doc said that taking drugs to uplift your T has lots of bad side effects. Hey, Kava is my Viagra and it's not even appreciated (except by the Nurse).:D
::frosty:: Hah! Wait till JMan's wife gets a load of this crap. The fur will fly. I want a front row seat. ::pumpkinsz::

My wife takes injections of Vitamin B 12, and daily pills of D-3. Here Doctor prescribes them. Much love. Roaddog....

yeah B-12 has really poor absorption unless taken sublingually or through injection, I don't even think Now Foods who I get most of our sublingual B-12 makes it in a cap or tab.

Being low on D3 can majorly screw with your hormone levels, raising D3 will often raise low T as well. Anyone taking D3 and or calcium should definitely be taking K2 as well. It is a co-factor of D3, working with it to tell the body where to deposit calcium so it doesn't end up in places like joints, blood vessels, and organs. You don't need to be ingesting calcium for this to happen, our bodies are very good at storing it and continually recycle it. If your diet isn't depleting calcium from your body, you really don't need much, if any, at all.

Actually, I'm fasting right now and go to give blood in 2 hours. I will know the results when I go for my checkup in 1 week. I have a spreadsheet with all my past readings so I will tell you if anything looks suspicious.

Good luck! Yeah, no sense in trying to fool them about your actual lifestyle. They see worse than most of us, can almost promise that.

I don't know if I mentioned before, but I had to go to the ER about... I guess six weeks ago. To make a long story short, I did have bloodwork done, which includd LFT's, and those were all fine. So I'm another regular user (several times a week, but not every day) that you can count in the normal liver function group.

I'm reluctant to talk about what my ER trip was for, because I know for sure that it had nothing to do with kava, and ties in with my depression. The illness itself isn't embarrassing, but some of the depression stuff is a sensitive issue, so this is one of those things you all will have to trust me on. I'll just say... it's something that would have developed over a longer period of time, far longer than I've been drinking kava. Kava helps with my depression, so it should help me avoid a recurrence of this issue... or at least it will probably take much longer before it happens again, because when I drink kava, I take better care of myself.

@KavaKat, I'm glad the Kava helps. I feel that if you break from your normal activities before the test, then you are fooling yourself and nobody else. Like not eating ice cream the night before when you normally do. You have to look at your blood the way it is on a normal day. So I had Kava yesterday because it was my "Kava Day".

Oh! And yes, I had had Kava about 48 hours before my trip to the ER. So it wasn't like I had cleaned myself up for it.

Kava Curious
Man I have been drinking Kava everyday almost I take the kava pills from standard process that are all water extraction noble kava and I also drink a kava in the night. It's been about two months of that. I am also taking valerian root and skull cap. But I do take cysteine and reishi mushrooms that is supposed to help the liver. After taking all the herbs for many months my blood tests came back completely normal, but now I have the addition of the daily Kava so I hope it's not going to harsh me. I really need it at this point and I don't know what I would do if I couldn't take it.

DylanJ, I wouldn't worry. Just do another blood test after you get into your new routine just to make sure. I'm doing 2 blood tests a year now and it's just not about kava but it's a pretty good excuse to check on stuff. I'm also a little older than you guys and I know the devil is sneaking up on me so I have to stay alert. By next Tuesday, I should post my results or any changes from the last time. I highly recommend that everyone create a spreadsheet with all their previous test results so they can easily review any trends that might be developing.

I thought the best way to get vitamin D was by being outdoors in plenty of sunshine??
When I lived in Portland OR, it was always either overcast or overcast and drizzly or overcast and overcast. I was always very depressed when I lived there and didn't realize why. Then I was recruited for a job in California where most places are nice and sunny and my depression immediately evaporated!!! I thought it was because of the weather but I now think it was from not having enough vitamin D.

I can't explain the vitamin D thing. I get a ton of sun here in South Texas. I spend a lot of time outdoors. But the vitamin D shortage is an age related thing I think. Maybe I can ask the Doc next week when he gives me the results.
