Hives from Kava

Newbie
I was going pretty hard on kava for about 2-3 weeks taking it 4-6 days a week sometimes twice a day and most times I was trying to get "krunk"

One day I had a real bad sleep and was feeling pretty run down from work and other things then decided to take a bit of kelai before going to the gym early in the morning (heard it was good before and after)

Later that day I started developing a rash on my chest at and the next days on my face, shoulders and back. Went to the doctors and started taking oral steroids and antihistamines which got rid of it.

I waited over 2 weeks until I was sure all redness cleared up on my face which got it the worst.

I took 4 shells of borogoru last night before bed, 2 tablespoons in a shaker strainer. I did stay up bit late but got a good sleep. My face is red/swelling again this morning.

I really hope I'm not fully allergic to it now because I would love to keep this as my alcohol replacement, it helps heaps with my sleep and love the other benefits from drinking it.

Has anyone had a similar experience and still use kava?

Should I have waited longer before coming back to kava?

Any advice?

I think that most of us have experienced something similar. Some cultivars really do impact one's skin more than others. So that's one aspect of avoiding skin pain. In my case, I also learned that my dermatological limit is around a dozen shells in a day. After recovering from hives and itching, I eased back by skipping the heavy kavas and only drinking every other day. Now I tend to drink 8 shells (only six yesterday) and have not experienced any recurrence of rashes.
