Powdered Kava Review Honokane Iki

Read a great deal of positive feedback so when the special came I had to try it.

Upon receipt, opened immediately and took a whiff. Smells great! That's where the line is drawn. While it's not a very strong taste i found however, it has a disgusting flavor that seems to linger. I heard "burnt dirt" and that seems to sum it up nicely. But we don't drink root for it's amazing flavor!

The first shell I immediately had mental relief from the days stresses. Nothing euphoric, just a sense of well being. The second shell brought a little more of the analgesic effect. No sedation noticed for me. As I continued to drink it I found the effects never really got stronger. Maybe I was expecting a huge mental "kapow" and that's why it seemed underwhelming at first.

The more I sat with it the more I noticed it's subtlety. It was like my brain had given up arguing things that it had been more than happy to dwell on all day. I just no longer cared. I think that might be it's power. It erased my cares and worries but kept me from giddy euphoria or heavy sedation.

All in all it's not bad. I don't think I'll purchase it again as Chris has many others I find more suitable for my needs. I'm going to try using it as a mixer to supplement some of my other "almost there" roots in the stash.

Haha, I'm gonna drown myself in this kava. My worries will be well beyond the point of return.

Good review blindy107! Everybody is effected by different strains in different ways. You use Kava for a specific purpose and this one doesn't totally foot the bill for you. Like I always say, "A Kava for Every Occasion". I like the Honokane Iki for daytime use but I may in the minority as far as daytime use goes.

no @Deleted User01 , you are not alone! i mix up a big protein shaker of kava every morning. i usually stick to Micro though as i like to sleep in and it saves time. this honokane is medium so i haven't had it for a daytime run yet.

Hey, maybe we need to start a daytimer thread where we can talk about how it helps us get through the day. What kind of kavas give us what effects for what kinds of daytime situations. I tried some in the morning the other day and it didn't "help" anything. I was already feeling the mellow after effects of some noble kava that I had the previous day. But I do remember how good it felt to take Kava one morning when my customers had driven me up the wall and I was ready to kill somebody. Kava was very, very beneficial on that morning. Oh, and I took one that had mild sedative effects, it was Mapulehu. Not exactly a daytime kava but exactly what the "Doctor Ordered". I also do only Micro and Instant. Less taste and easy peasie.

I did 3 tbsp of 11 year this morn. Little too potent....I just wandered in circles giggling. And turned the shop heater up to like 75*

Blindy107, that is bad Kava behavior. Bad dawg, bad dawg. Been there and done that. But it's the holidays so treat it like a weekend treat. In the long run, I want to start talking about what constitutes responsible Kava use. How can we be like the islanders and drink kava safely? How do we avoid abusing Kava like we have (probably) abused every other mind altering substance? I have recently matured as a kava drinker (and maybe as an adult) and I don't want to use Kava like I did alcohol and other "things". I also want to show the rest of the world that Kava drinkers are not substance abusers. But we can talk about that more after the holidays. For now, BULA!

Yeah @Deleted User01, it's a tough line for me to draw being an addict. I usually cut myself off at the desired state of mind but sometimes my chugging catches up with me slower. Being that it isn't the cheapest sport around I am also diligent about conservation as well and don't make additional batches once the first is gone. Some roots do take tweaking to learn the correct amount though.

I have a good friend here on the forum who is always reminding me that he has an addictive personality and he thinks he drinks too much kava. However, he is light years better off with Kava than with any other substance. So you get a free ride for now. I'm more concerned about members (like me) that use Kava like we would abuse alcohol and drugs. We ain't happy until we drink too much. We ain't happy till we are Crunked. I'm finally realizing that Kava is not for that. Kava helps you get away from that. It may take you a while but that is the goal. I have matured a lot as a Kava drinker and now I only want to take the dose that makes me feel good and then cut it off. Which of course is the opposite of what I would do if I was abusing alcohol or drugs. I want to set a good example for all Newbie Kava Drinkers that come into this forum. And Blindy107, the fact that you were totally honest about the problem and your long term goal is to do better, well that is also a very good example to other members who are fighting the same battle.
Happy Holidays guys. Don't dip too much into the Holiday Punch Bowl unless it only has Kava. :D

I'm a big fan of heavier Kava's as an emergency relief. Sometimes I'll drink a headier kava at work when I am not feeling working that day, but if something REALLY stressful happens I prefer to have a heavy hitter around and ready.

I read the latest test results again and it said that this strain was 246xxx . Is that the reason why most of the reviews lately haven't found it as heady as it has been known to be in
the past?
Also, could the Nene Instant possibly be headier ? (426xxx and 31.30 kavain %)

Anything can happen! Try em all and let us know.

I know one member, @Deleted User01 if I recall, uses moi for daytime and nene for bed. I've found them both to be pretty good daytime roots. Mahakea gives me more sedation than either of those two.

Moi and @KavaBoy Hawaii's root give me the lightest and most uplifting effect mentally. Kalm does as well at times.

Best advice is to just start sampling. @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava has a micro sample pack of moi, nene and mahakea. Three of my favs and a good price.

@blindy107, somehow I find Nene to be pretty mellow and easy going. No big effects except for Big Sleep. Like I say, everyone has their own internal chemotype and different strains effect them in different ways. Nene was originally used by the Islanders as medicine for sick children. The one from GHK is way more potent but it would be ideal for a Newbie trying Kava for the first time. The side effects should be zippo. It is also number one on Harpos Nobility Chart so it is probably the safest Kava out there.

@blindy107, I remember a female member posting that she felt it was heady. Now I'm wondering if I'm odd man out. I haven't tried the Nene in the afternoon in a very long time. I think I will revisit it and see how it goes. Also, it is possible that the newer Nene (with the additional lateral root) may be headier than the old Nene. But I like the Odd man out theory because of lots of factors including age.

Right this minute, I'm working on 2 tablespoons of nene instant. I'm going to get a definitive answer as to whether it is an afternoon kava or not. I haven't tested it in the afternoon for a long while so here it goes..... I have lots of work to do so I hope I don't end up ....
