I use 6-12 TBSP in 700ml of water...a lot of people use less, depends on the person...and the root.

In 300 ml I have made grog with 1, 2, 3, and 4 TBS and it was all good, though of different strengths, of course. The most typical ratio if I have 300 ml water would be 2 TBS but I would make the first wash with 300 ml and then a second wash with 200ml and then combine the two for a 1/2 litre of standard strength grog.
Of course, there is no universal right and wrong here, just what is right for you at any particular moment, what you respond to and like and how you feel and how you want to feel.
