Hey guys, brand new to forum (glad to be here) and fairly new to kava as a whole. After trying KKF 84% paste and yogi's tea versions I went ahead and ordered the Fu'u ceremony kit from BKH. Had first couple bowls last night. Set me in a very happy state. As said, glad to be here guys!

Glad you liked it, Slow Native, and welcome to the forum. Our other kavas are pretty awesome as well, definitely worth a try. My favorite is Melo Melo. Let me know if you ever need any guidance or have any questions about Bula Kava House products or kava in general.

Hey Judd,

Not sure if u saw my earlier post.

Just tried fu'u for the first time and had great results.

I've never had a grind that fine before, is it ok to be drinking that much powder?

Like 80% of it went through my strainer bags no matter how I did it.

It's very gritty when I drink it.

Is it ok to drink it that gritty? Or should I really try to filter it better?

Thanks

Thanks a lot for reaching out Judd. Def wanna try a heavier DHM strain Next, you think your boroguru? This fu is nice n heady, and actually the first traditional kava I've tried. Wonder how the mix of fu n boro would be?! Using kava in a pure recreational way at the moment

I've actually mixed boroguro and fu'u and they compliment each other perfectly. Boroguro is also a much coarser grind of kava and when mixed with fu'u it makes it much more managable to knead and strain, as fu'u is super fine. Good job moving from kona and yogi to BKH, they have been my primary source for a while. I absolutely love the boroguro as I am pretty biased towards heavy DHM kavas, but recently I have been really liking the mele melo. Their instant green is very tasty and a great way to make quick and strong kava, or add some to traditional shell and make it deisel.

Was the coconut cup you got huge? I got mine and loved it and would always get floored off one large shell and two would usually be too much. Then I did a volume test and found that it held 3 and 1/2 cups of fluid which would likely have had a 1/4 to 1/2 root kava root used to make the grog.

I'd try a few strains and find which kavalactone profile gels best with you. I've always thought Judd should have a sampler which had 1/4 kg of each strain. I thought about just ordering one of each in the begining but I'm too much of a tightwad. I just got the boroguro and loved it and bought 2 kgs over the next several months with some fu'u and a few tins of instant green as well. I'm glad I tried melo melo though, but truth be told I will likely get boroguro next time.

Welcome to the forum!

Whoa, didn't see that I posted my original post three times! Lol my apologies ;) For the most part it is just me drinking kava as my fiancé hates the taste (reminds her of milk) starting off with my first batch of kava root powder I've been doing 2 heaping tablespoons of Fu'u to 2 cups water, what ya think of that ratio for a beginner?

Yeah that ratio is just right. But maybe listen to somebody else, seeing as I am still a beginner :)
I've only had fu'u so far, and it is really great. I just ordered some Boroguru and Melo from BKH and we'll see how it works out.

When the fu'u hits you fully its an awesome experience. If you have to ask if your feeling it, you haven't felt the true effects yet!
2 cups of Fu'u, and you won't mind sitting there doing nothing haha. I tend to just sit there thinking after some good ol' Fu'u.
