The kavalactones are not soluble in water : what decreases is the number of kava particles going through the strainer. Your drink is less and less muddy but also less potent. However it is enjoyable, even if still not really refreshing. After three washes, it's over.

Out of one pound is hard to determine. It's easier to think in terms of sessions (or one serving) and then how many washes you can get per session. I would say 2 washes is the standard with 3 washes possible for stronger kavas.
