instant kava: what's your dosage?

Got my shipment today from BKH and I'm super-stoked.  The BKH website suggests a "couple of teaspoons," but, outta curiosity, how much (of any instant) do y'all prefer to use for your brew?

I should add I've never actually tried an instant before.  But, with root, I normally use 2tbs for stronger strains (and 3tbs for milder) to hit my sweet spot.  Would love to hit that same spot with an instant.

I have only used instants a number of times, so there will be better answers here from others. But I usually use 2 tsbp per cup water. I love to mix the instant in with a shell of kava though, or use it as a chaser, that will get you into the "kava zone" fairly quickly lol....

Dan, we suggest 1-2 tsps per 6-8 oz. of liquid. This is a very potent batch, so I would start with one and work your way up if you'd like a stronger effect.

I just got mine today...right now when I came home from work. Knowing that I will be drinking beer tonight I couldnt make a super batch, but I just made a small one at 1/2 tsp with 4oz of water.

SUPER AWSOME!

The effects were almost instant.

I was having a pretty pissed off end of day episode...now everything is at one, haha

dan, I've said this somewhere else, but I'm not sure if you've seen this. You can, and probably should, mix instant kava with water. You can, and probably shouldn't mix instant kava with kava. I love to mix instant kava with kava. It makes a supercharged ultra-kava.

i feel like an idiot asking this but, just to make sure, when we say teaspoon, are we talking rounded teaspoons or fairly flattened teaspoons?

For me, I'm talking tablespoons that I gently shake to knock off some kava to where it's only a slightly heaping tablespoon. What Judd means I'm sure is an accurate, well rounded teaspoon (1/3 of a tablespoon), but that's just not how I roll. I have a few accurate scales that I used to use to measure chems and herbals where dose was of critical importance. However kava just isn't that way. Being off a few grams is alright. (smiley: smokin)

I use a cooking teaspoon. Since the powder is kind of spongy and easily compressed, I press it down to flatten it out and call that my tsp. It's not a stupid question at all. As a matter of fact, I wasn't sure if I should compress the powder or just leave it all fluffy-like in the spoon. Since I like to go for a fairly strong experience, I got better results from compressing the powder (obviously more kava = stronger). With this measuring method, I get nice results from 1.5 - 2 tsp. When I left it uncompressed, I had to use close to 3 tsp for the same results. Like I said, it compresses down a lot! Hope this helps.

2 heaping (as in as much as I can possible carry on a eating teaspoon) in about 8 ounces of water.  I'll usually have 2-3 shells worth of squeezed kava for a night of fun.  Sometimes when I'm low on time I'll make a 2 shell squeezed batch and add 1-2 heaping tablespoons worth and that will be it.  Gulp that down in on shot and kick back for the evening.  You go from pissed to feeling better to happy and finally to melt into the couch mode.
