I do not know Chris at all except for his postings on this fine site, his blog articles, videos, and the quality of the products I have received from him. On those measures, I think there is little doubt he is far from an unkind or uncaring person. In fact, if you spend time scouring through this forum you will find many instances where Chris goes well beyond the fences I would expect of a Kava vendor and steps straight into the space of a truly caring individual whose passion for Kava and the purity of keeping it Noble are paramount. A lesser vendor/man would have long given into the profit motive of slipping in a little tudei to increase income. It is clear Chris would never give into that temptation, and we are all beneficiaries of that principled stance.
It sounds as if you fell into buyers remorse sometime after placing your order. I will agree that GHK's site tracking is a little confusing. My orders go into a Hold mode they never escape, yet a few days later a lovely gold pouch arrives. I have ordered from other vendors, and if your desire is to have a more Amazon-like ordering experience, it can be had from many others. As Chris mentioned in his reply, there are many good vendors and you would be wise to try a few as you go through your Kava discovery. The real challenge you ran into is that you were fooled into thinking you were dealing with and EBay-like seller by having an email contact. GHK is far bigger than that, and your only real options to correct your order would have been to cancel (if still available), or possibly let the parcel deliver and then return. I would also suggest spending more time on any Kava site before ordering to ensure you have picked the best option for you. The world of Kava is rich and confusing, and few know exactly the right thing to do from the start. It takes a bit of trial and error.
All that being said, you made an excellent choice is selecting the Mahakea. That was also my first real Kava purchase, and like you, I struggled to gain the value of Kava immediately. What we were going through is "reverse tolerance" a topic on which this forum can provide a great deal of information. I remember about half-way through my first bag Googling "is kava a scam?" and when Google returned no appropriate responses, I knew I was alone in that thought. The breakthrough happened for me soon after, with the most memorable moment being my right eye seemingly attempting to fulfill a life long wish to look directly into my left eye. The beauty of Kava opened for me from that point on.
The key is prep. I recommend two tablespoons of Kava to every hot tap water cup of water. I tend to make a quart at a time, so 8 tablespoons (2 tbsp x 4 cups). Put the kava in a good strainer (Cactus Kava has a beautiful strainer) or a pair of knee-high women's stockings. Knead that ball of Kava in the water for 10 minutes, pour the mixture into a container, add more water to the bowl (about half as much as the first time) and knead for another five minutes or so. That will make a solid Kava drink.
Drink 4 to 6 ounces on an empty or nearly empty stomach (3 hours after your last meal is a good window) every 10 to 15 minutes and you should be on your way.
Believe me, I understand your frustration. I also envy you the journey that is soon to begin for you. The start of something good is always memorable, and the struggles to achieve it will soon be footnotes.
Bula.
