K@

Kava Curious
i decided to stop kava for a night and go with K@, and holy shit...i was bombed...lasted 8 hours (took 1 tablespoon of borneo red vein). It was a great feeling, but i couldn't sleep (althought i was pleasently relaxed) and was a zombie for two days after. I'm wondering if the build up of kavalactones in my system contributed to the intensity of my K@ session? I'll probably do it again, but make sure i've got nothing important to do for the next few days!

Krunkedout, there are a lot of methods to ingest K@, but many find the most effective and economical to be toss and wash: just washing down a spoonful of powder with a drink. While there are dozens of "strains," the two of which are most distinct are Bali and Thai, the former being sedating and the latter stimulating. I've replaced all caffeinated beverages—bar yerba mate, because it's just so good—with Thai K@, while I've cut down on my herbal anxiolytic use, excluding kava, using Bali. As you'll read all over the place, it can be addictive, but I recommend finding a middle ground between the insane big pharma legislators' bullshit and the vendors who claim it's no more addictive than morning coffee. While it is addictive, you'll find websites saying that it's "more dangerous than heroin," because we hear about people killing and mugging others for a spoonful of K@ all the time. (smiley: wink) I'm not suggesting you try it, and if kava suffices for your anxiety/depression/whatever you're using it for, you may not want to just in case of addiction, however mild it may be. But if you need an extra "kick," responsible K@ use has given that to many. Best of luck in your researching and experimenting!

I can't stand "toss and wash," I mix it with applesauce, sometimes greek yogurt. I take 5 grams Maeng Da, about 2 hours after dinner before I go to work. I don't really "feel" it, but I don't feel the usual aches and pains or tiredness from physical labor. Before I started using it, I was leaving work earlier and earlier, exhaustion was beginning to be a real problem. Now I can finish and still get to sleep, unlike when I was using energy drinks and other caffeinated products.

Use it, don't abuse it!

I was a hardcore IV opiate user for years and after an accident in construction work was prescribed hard opiates for years beyond that. That said I think I rewired my opiate receptors and K@ has no effect other than naseau. I used it succesfully to ween off suboxone and it worked as far as suppressing withdrawal, but I've never gotten a real buzz off it. I've tried a bunch of time with a bunch of varieties and extracts and at best end up woozy and puking, no nodding our or anything memorable. Like any drug active at the opioid receptors it can cause addiction and withdrawal and that should be taken into consideration. The best I've found was Thai Ong Phat (Thai of the Gods) as it was the one that gave good effects before making me barf.

Thanks for the recommendation, new2kava!  The place that sells Thai Ong Phat gave me a sample of ZK K@ with my first purchase and WOW! Best I ever had. They also sell kava extract and I was wondering if it was any good. Have you, or anyone out there, tried it?
