Kava after valium wears off?

I'm still working on my hoard i already have. So much wakacon kava to drink, not that i mind, its my favorite kava.

This is a old thread, but I have some questions on it, I too take Valium, more like 30mg. A day, for several years. I plan to try to soon taper off, but After reading this thread, it has me a bit worried. I daily use kava and Valium. I wonder if there is any cross tolerance. Meaning could Kava add to the addiction. When I get up in the morning, I have a strong over powering urge to take a kava. Also in the evenings. I hope im not doing anything dangerous, or making my valium addiction worse. I have talked to a couple very experienced members on this matter, and was told, things should be fine. Is there any new research, or antidotal experiences on this, from any other members?

There is no cross tolerance with any benzodiazepines and kava.

While kava does definitely act in a GABAergic way, I would say (in my opinion, based on the research I've read) that it does NOT act as a ligand to GABA receptors (subtype a or b). This would mean that kava does not cause the same changes in GABA receptors that benzos, alcohol, z-drugs, etc. act, including tolerance and such.

In fact, I would say that it is likely that kava might even up-regulate GABA receptors which would "counter" the effects of the tolerance to benzos (which causes GABA receptor down-regulation, as well as changes within the cell such as cAMP and other transmission and transduction changes that act in a way to decrease "sensitivity" of ligand-based cell transmission)

I wouldn't worry one bit about it. I have been consuming kava and am also on a daily dose of diazepam (19mg) and have found no adverse effects whatsoever.
