Kava and Eating (Getting Hangry!)

With an empty stomach being so crucial to kava working, I'm wondering how folks deal with not eating, or how you deal with eating, with kava. If I start drinking kava around 7pm, I'll likely not have eaten since 4 or earlier, and then don't want to eat for a few more hours so I can drink more kava--however, that means not eating until like 9 or later, and by that time, my bloodsugar gets so low that it's a struggle and I get a bit hangry. Any suggestions?

I eat midway through and if I feel like drinking more I will. On the weekends I have mini sessions throughout. So I woke up today, had a light breakfast and eventually (now) some kava, I will eat lunch and drink more kava later, I plan my kava around my regular meals and occasionally I may skip one. I never wait 3-4 hours before drinking shells, I've had lunch before and continued drinking kava an hour later, it depends on my mood.

One thing seems to always be the same and that is over the years I've come to only really enjoy kava at home, I don't bring it with mw unless I am going to be away from home for more than 2 days.

For myself, it's an evening thing before dinner (say, eat at 12PM and kava at 4PM, followed by dinner) or it's dinner at 5.30, kava at 9PM directly before bed. Doesn't leave much room to actually be hungry on either side!

You do mention not wanting to eat a few more hours so you can drink more kava; that can be a bit rough! Almost a chasing the dragon-type deal, I know I used to do similar though these days I either need sleep or food after kava lest I feel nauseous. A decent amount of fruit as chasers can help in this regard too.

I have found that waiting after kava to eat has more to do with it than how long after eating to drink kava. Seems like two hours after a meal is fine but I need to wait half an hour after kava before eating again or the food causes a delayed onset, by as much as five hours! I have doubled up on kava after eating only to find that two hours or so after lying down for the night that I can’t get up and have no coordination or balance—even struggling to crawl—for hours after. It seems to hit me all at once.

I drank, then waited four hours and drank again thinking the food just drowned it out only to find myself incapacitated a few hours later.
