Kava as a replacement for Alcohol - which brands do you recommend?

Kava Curious
Hello,  I am looking to trade night time habits.  From what I read Kava does not affect you the same way as alcohol but it does affect you!  I have a daily ritual of drinking wine that I am no longer okay with.  I use alcohol to unwind, unstress, numb up, etc.  I  have noticed that my tolerance has gone through the roof. I am starting to gain weight and I am sick of it.

I've read a few posts where people have actually found that they have come enjoy the effects of Kava more than alcohol.

I'm not concerned with the taste of Kava.  I do have a tincture (recently purchased) that I have taken a few times during the day. 3 droppers is supposedly 1500mg. It has a mild numbing effect and also a bit relaxing/muscle relaxant. I mix it in water.  I am hoping that a different form will be more productive!

What types and brands would you recommend for me?  Thanks.

Oh, and Is there any instant powder that will give me the nightly relief in place of alcohol -- for when I'm in a hurry--which I often am?

P.S. I did see the many posts warning to stay away from Kona Kava. Point well taken. I almost ordered from them because they pop up on Google all the time.

I'm in a similar situation. My alcohol habits haven't been the best of late so I want to use kava as an alternative. After reading about kava I definitely felt like alcohol was the wrong weapon to use against what ails me anyway.

Unfortunately the first kava I tried hasn't done much for me. It was a Hawaiian kava, which I'm told tend to be on the weak side. I think I'm a bit hard-headed, so you might not have the same experience, but I'm going to try something stronger next. After digging around here and looking online I think Stone from Nakamal at Home may be a good option. I'll report back when I try it, but I know there are those here who can probably provide some more immediate insights.

Hey Swingline, I too use kava as a replacement for alcohol. I went on a bulking diet last fall and needed something that wouldn't impede my progress. Thus, I found kava. I highly recommend N@H's Stone Kava. It is the most powerful kava that I have tried thus far, and proves to be a great way to reduce stress. I find that if I use it at a party, it even acts as a pretty good alternative to alcohol. It functions in a similar way to alcohol as it will lower your inhibitions, reduce anxiety, and it even acts a muscle relaxant.

If you want a potent way to make your kava, try this method:

1. Put 1/2 cup of kava in a strainer bag

2. Place inside a container filled with 2 cups of water and 1 cup of milk

3. Let soak for ~1 hour

4. Knead the kava for 30 minutes

5a. Place container (with kava) inside the refrigerator for 3-5 hours (makes it more potent, and allows it to chill)

OR (if you want instant gratification)

5b. Strain the bag of any remaning liquid

6. Grab a shell and enjoy!

I think the effects of kava are nicer than alcohol. (One is a depressant, the other not so much.) I think I'm also less likely to go over board on kava, but that maybe my own weakness. I usually buy from Bula Kava house or Kava By Rex because their products are less expensive, but N@H has some good stuff too. If you want instant, N@H is a place other people have recommended (KBR definitely doesn't sell instant and I don't know about Bula). It really only takes me about five minutes to make kava in the evening and I make enough for two days at a time, so I just use the regular stuff. It seems as though some brands of kava affect the mind more and some affect the body more. I usually like either a mind (kavain) kava or a mix of the two, but I haven't experimented with the tuidei's enough to really be able to give advice. I'm really enjoying KBRs Fiji Waka right now, but if I was going to a party I'd take tongan pride, which doesn't make me sleepy, but makes me very happy. Alot of people like Bula houses Borogu for a lighter experience too. Many people find a reverse tolerance with kava, so if it doesn't hit you the first time, that may not be an indication of anything, but your tincture may have taken care of that. I think you'll figure out what you are looking for from the different brands. It seems as though most people have slightly different preferences. I'd love to try Stone, for example, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be a daily kava for me. I think it would be too strong in the body for me to use everyday. I'm kind of a light weight when it comes to effects, so take that for what it's worth. Anyway, welcome! I hope you'll let us know what you are trying and if it's working for you.

Kava was a huge part of the reason why I stopped drinking alcohol a year ago. After I got into it alcohol just didn't appeal to me anymore. You'll be amazed how differently the same people you used to drink with look, sound and act when they're drinking and you're not. I also noticed how uptight the people around me are. It was like a light went on and I was really able to see what was going on around me.

I have been doing research on some of the most potent and user friendly KAVA experiences. Tried several different remedies but the one that caught my eye was a product called 1Hour Break. It's actually an oral spray that has very potent KAVA that acts fast with a relaxing feeling. I have been using this for a couple of months now and to be honest its been great. No preparation needed and I can carry a bottle everywhere. Fairly cheap, $10 a bottle which has about 15 servings. I also have tried the pill form, but it gets pricey and there is too much time before you get the effects.   If i were you i would visit the website to read more about this product. Ever since I found 1Hour Break, its opened my eyes to a whole different world of KAVA. I posted something similar on ED's problems getting the true effects on KAVA.  www1hourbreak.com

This is some next-level spammery.

No spam, just giving information on remedies that have worked for me.
I just wish you were into finding a solution like everyone else...(smiley: indifferent)

Yeah, but you posted the exact same promo crap TWICE in separate threads, and both times it was irrelevant to the subject at hand.   Smells like spam to me.

Some people are looking for a product/ solution for their Kava needs. It can be the same reply for both people on different forums. Focus on what is at hand, take some Kava and relax.. for everyones sake
The spam police can go to sleep now(smiley: devil)

If you're not a representative of this
product/company, you should make that clear, 'cause you really do come
across that way.  If you are, you should definitely
make that fact known, and introduce yourself a little.   Judd @ Bula
Kava contributes regularly here, but he's always up front about his
company, and it's a non-issue. (And his product/service is great on top
of that.)

There's a lot of great discussion here, and, even as a
fairly experienced user, I've learned tons from the forums.  But people,
including a lot of recent arrivals to kava, come here seeking answers,
too, about basics of preparation, effects, varieties, brands, etc.  So,
yeah, it does get on my nerves to see that potentially being exploited.

I do not represent any company, I drink Kava when im home and have the time to prepare it. I was simply trying to give everyone a solution, if you decide to take my advice is completely up to you. This is just a easy to prepare Kava. I do not have any deals to offer anyone but the website and the knowledge about the product. I just came back from Hawaii and drank plenty at some of the local Kava bars out there. There is a huge difference between drinking/chugging a cup to get the true affects, rather then just spraying Kava directly into your mouth. This is just something i use now when im going from place to place and have no time...(smiley: roll)
Sorry for the confusion..

i agree with dan, i respect your apparent "love" of this 1 hour whatever, but i prefer my kava fresh made and strong. and you seem waaaay to knowledgeable about this stuff to not be, at the very least trying to advertise. If its your company or whatever you should let us know and a lot of us would be happy to support you most likely. People dont like deceit..

Kona is very aggressive with the Google Ad-Bombing. One fix is to open Internet Explorer (even if you use a different browser normally), click on Tools and go to Internet Options. Click on the Privacy tab. You have two options here. First is to set Privacy to High and be done with it. The second is to customize the setting by clicking on Advanced, put a check next to Override automatic cookie handling and block third-party cookies.

This means that websites won't be able to advertise to you based on your known preferences. Instead, you'll receive random, undirected ads.

I found myself forced to do this more or less because of how many damned ads I had for this kava-mill.

I would consider myself a fan..... a fan knows everything about his or her product/ team whatever it may be. They are ways to get free samples.
Preparing Kava is great i agree. But like i have said before this is a connivence factor for the true Kava lovers
