Kava Laws and Regulations. What's needed during a kava resurgence?

This thing of Kava bars selling stupid crap in Florida makes me so sad! Kava should not be sold in the same place as this synthetic pot. Kava is real. I wish I had a solution:(

I just want to state that the Paradise Isa kava package is just about perfect.

It has:

cultivar name

island of origin

age of plant

Making this the law may be too extreme, but it ought to be industry standard.

I agree, other vendors should state the age of the plants and origin

I think the most important thing needed is transparency. As a kava user now I gain nothing by hiding the fact that I drink kava. it does far more for kava in general I think if we're open about what kava is, why it was used and why we use it.

Yes, stating how old, the cultivar and were the kava comes from is a good start. A standard set of regulations could be really good for kava and I think it will help more than hurt in the long run.

The side of this I'm most concerned about is the image we present of ourselves to others. Above I said "kava user". For someone new to our community what might those two words mean to him or her? Are we "users" or "drinkers" or something else? I try to be very careful how I say this when explaining it to new people. Saying "user" or "drinker" may portray ourselves as being similar to something we're not. (alcohol, MJ being the obvious ones)  I have been accused of being addicted despite the fact that I often forget to have kava until it's too late and I have some kind of attack, small or not. I hate to think we need some kind of script to go by but little things like what we say we are or what we do can actually make a difference when confronted with someone(s) that don't know anything about kava or the communities, such as ours, that enjoy it.

I also forgot to mention grind (?) date. Not really sure about the date on the kava, but I still appreciate it.

I refer to myself as a krunkasaurus. I suppose "kavassuer" would work, but I like the image of a gigantic staggering beast with scaly skin stomping through the tropics and uprooting kava plants in search of the perfect krunk. Rawr!

I like "drinker" to distinguish myself from people who rely on pills. No ill wishes to those individuals, but I suspect they are having less positive effects and more negative effects. Unfortunately, the verb for imbibing a beverage has somehow become associated with alcohol.

I think it would be wonderful if people could be open-minded about Kava. I have almost given up trying to explain why it helps me. People keep mentioning the liver thing. I do think that many people are also helped by pot. However just to be safe no one (like me) should drive on either. I am not that expert a driver. Also pot and other things make people postpone changes in their thinking. Kava has helped my thinking become better so I only do kava.

I like to refer to myself as a kavasseur, that's because when I tell people about kava I like to compare it to having a wine hobby. There many different kinds that have slightly different tastes on the pallet and tey both relax you and help your thoughts flow clearer.

1.) No alcohol. Mixing kava and alcohol is, I have been told personally, a wonderful experience. The problem is that it's also dangerous, both short term and especially long term.

I'm curious as to why this is. I've done it a few times, with fairly moderate amounts of alcohol, say 5 beers or less. What are the long term consequences?

Liver damage mainly. The load could be too much for your liver to handle in the long term.

I like to tell people I'm a mud drinker.

For a Kava Resurgence to be successful it is necessary to take into consideration that it is a characteristic of man that he can only be relied upon to do anything consistently which is in his own interest. He may have occasional fits of conscience and moral rectitude but otherwise his actions are governed by self-interest. It follows then that whatever the moral reasons for a Kava Resurgence... it will only be achieved by the inducement of profit or pleasure.

I agree because I understand why I drink it.  It is in my best self-interest to medicate myself this way rather than any other way.  I can sometimes do too much even of this but it sort of helps me regulate myself .  There is no big high if u drink too much kava, you just get sick.  My weirdness seems so unimportant when I dose myself with a little extract or a few shells.  Also it is different every time I do it.  So I satisfy my need for certainty (i will feel better) as well as my need for uncertainty(how much different will I feel?) every time. It tastes so different from anything else.  However...herb shops in China can make u some teas that are horrible.  This is the only 'bad' tasting stuff I have developed a taste for.
