kava strainers & bags

I bought a new kava bag from Kavaboy, and started using it last Friday. While it is a good quality bag and seems to make a stong batch of kava, the resulting kava drink absolutely destroys my stomach. I'm thinking of going back to my old trusty muhslin cotton bag that I purchased from KKF back in my two-day days (before I knew better of course). Anyway, the KKF bag works great, and seems to filter out whatever is making my stomach have problems. Any similar stories or recommendations?

I've been using the same Kule'a Farm Kava Fijian strainer for like two years now. I lost my KavaBoy strainer before I could use it, but it seemed like a normal paint strainer to me i.e. pretty coarse, so yeah anything finer will probably help.

I've only ever used women's nylon ankle stockings, for over 20 years now, and had no problems. They're cheap and effective, and if I can't find mine I can borrow the wife's and see if she notices when I put them back in her drawer. They seem to last about 15 mixes before starting to tear. I did get some purpose-made muslin "kava bags" from Fiji once but they dropped to bits in no time with the hard kneading.
I'd like to try out one of the nut-milk bags that some have recommended

Awa,

I have had similar problems in the past when experimenting with different bags.
I remember a post from Kava Guru mentioning using inexpensive nylon paint strainer bags to make kava.
I tried this with two doubled up paint strainer bags. There was waay to much root matter left over in my batch of grog. Granted, the kava was super strong, but I had stomach and bowel issues for a good 24 hrs after that--not fun. Also, I have had the same issues when attempting to put kava root in the blender for a few minutes in lieu of kneading it in a strainer bag.

Conclusion-Stick to your muslin strainer bag! I have been using some products from a biodiesel company that I bought online. They have been working pretty well. I have a 55micron bucket strainer filter that I use to "finish" my Kava before drinking.

Nut milk bags are my favorite. Small micron size and vey strong material that you can really lay a heavy squeeze on.
