Hello everyone, I have never done kava before, but I've walked past Bula Kava house a bunch and want to try it. I'm just overwhelmed by the variety and am wondering which type you all would suggest I get?

Also, I'm a little nervous to try kava because I see that a common term to describe kava is "heady," which is a term that I don't understand but normally associate with marijuana, which I don't enjoy at all; it makes me super paranoid; so I just wanted to ask if kava is anything at all like marijuana?

Edit: apparently the m-word that can also be described as "weed" gets bleeped out.

Some people do complain that heady kavas give them anxiety. I think the majority of BKHs kavas are from Vanuatu and they are not as heady but perhaps provide more sedation. Since you live there, just check it out. Chat up the Barkeep and see what he recommends. Tell him you only want 100% Noble Kava.

@burdgod Hi! Welcome to the forum. Yes, those words are censored. It does that so search engines wont tie kava and other substances together. It's our way of keeping kava information pure.

Nambawan! It's their best kava.

Kava won't cause you to be paranoid like other smokable substances can. When you see the term "Heady" we're referring to kava's ability to alter one's head-space. It doesn't force your mind to explode in every direction the way the aforementioned alternate substance can. Heady kavas are more euphoric and anxiolytic. However Nambawan is a great kava for balance between the sedative and heady effects kava has. It really is a stellar product.

I thought Nambawan was a very strong balanced kava. Frankly, it was akin to taking tranquilizers/pain medication by the third shell. I have never had Koniak and I've read that is strong as well. Not sure how it compares.
I'd definitely order a few shells of the Nangol. Happy, uplifting stuff that makes you wanna make out ;-)

My tastes must really differ. The two lbs of koniak i have purchased were both underwhelming for me. I lean towards the 11 year and the Nangol Noble myself. I have only had nambawan once and it was early in my career. purchased recently but have yet to try it.

I am new to Kava as well. I get anxiety some times and Kava was recommended to me. I went to the Bulva Kava House website to try out Nambawan kava but its sold out. Any other recommendations? Thx
