Yep, seaside maewo nakamal. Quite nice, but my favourite nakamals are shefa and chiefs, I think.

Fresh kava is very different, tastes like some sort of bitter vegetable cocktail/juice. It can be much stronger than dried powder, but it can also give one some solid nausea when consumed in large quantities. I think I should try to buy some ginger beer:)

@Henry, so that is where the world famous "Jungle Boy" is hanging. Did you get his autograph? :ROFLMAO: Maybe that is the new way to enjoy a cup of Kava with a friend. You guys are Kava Pioneers. :D Cheers!

Maybe I can use this thing we have at work if I make to Van.

It's a robot that our area field manager can plug into and remotely control to help diagnose vehicles. Kind of like a skype or FaceTime on wheels....it's silly.

Totally lame promotional vid but shows it in action.

Henry, if you take me next time, I'll be your friend! :woot: I was talking to Dr. Lebot a few nights ago and he told me he is heading for Europe so he is not there in Vanuatu right now. He will be back at the end of this month. How long are you there for? Also in this last package I sent you I included some Hanakapi'ai for you to try. (y)
Aloha.

Get to Sofie nakamal, its prob my favourite, opens early also at 1.30-2pm. Ronnies & Bamboo are close to it also.

I only saw the new Chiefs nakamal when i was there last time, little bit touristy. Where did you end up staying .. Coconuts ?

Thanks, Chris! You are always welcome to join me on my next kava trips, but I doubt you would find the local kava here superior to your own fresh stuff. Maybe you yourself should open a nakamal? We could then organize piligrimages to it?:)

I am only staying here for a few more days and then I need to get back to work and reality:(

Most of them only mention which island their kava is from.. Some of them are also a bit innovative, e.g. one nakamal sells "sweet" kava which apparently is made from a slightly fermented root? Weird

Have a great trip! Post more pics Henry! Have you tried the Nakamal across from the parliament building? Are you going to Pentecost or Santos?

That would be Chiefs Nakamal. The old one is gone now, new one is sort of a bit sterile but gives you a huge choice of kavas from all the provinces. I spent maybe 3 nights there a few months back & didnt see many locals drinking there, a few did. I didnt see any of the politicians file out of parliment house to drink there either. That said the old one was a real mess even on their building standards. Im an electrician & for 3 years i turned up every 6 months & saw the same electrical extension cord laying on the coral in the water being driven over by cars. It scared the hell out of me.

Sofies is the place to go to on a fri,sat afternoon & get crunked, sit back & watch the locals all file in.

Might go to sofies tonight. I am staying at travellers which is on the other side of vila, right next to shefa nakamal. I had way too much kava last night, I almost feel like taking a break today. Almost.;)
