Mixing Different Kava Strains

Hi, I'm Mike, first post here. I've been using Kava on and off for several years, mainly turning to Realkava's Vanuatu blend for my go to source of Kava bliss. Recently, I've decided to expand my horizons and mix it up a bit, and after hearing many, many good things about the Tongan Pride at Kava By Rex, I ordered a batch. Very nice, very relaxing, though I was expecting to get a burst of energy from it after reading about other's experiences. Not the case with me. In fact, I slept incredibly well on it and had insanely vivid dreams. Just goes to show you how subjective an experience Kava is.
Anyway, I'm wondering if mixing the Tongan Pride and Gary's Vanuatu would yield a good effect or just end up knocking me on my ass? I don't drink Kava to get krunk. Usually I enjoy some 2-4 times a week, just enough to take the edge off and elevate my mood. I apologize if this subject has been discussed elsewhere, but I'm just a newbie on this board so please cut me some slack :)

P.S. In the event Tongan Pride and Vanuatu aren't compatible, I'd love to hear some suggestions on what other strains go well with the Vanuatu blend. I'm realizing there's an incredible world of kava out there I've yet to tap. Thanks! Happy to be here. And oh yeah, the batch of Tongan Pride I just knocked back is starting to kick in :)

Welcome to the Forum Mike. If you drink 2 Kavas in separate sessions and neither one "knocks you on your ass" then mixing them won't to that either. The members here are always "blending" Kavas to get certain effects. Go ahead and mix them and let us know how it goes. Just don't drink "double" the amount.:D

Do it :D! I mix kavas often and the effects are usually as good as either kava alone but with some different nuances. The only weird thing that I've seen is sometimes a mixed grog will taste worse than either kava on its own.

The bad taste on a blend is a complaint I have heard before and I have also experienced. Now you got me thinking. If I blended some Gourmet Hawaiian Kava (Moi) Instant Kava with some Instant Kava from Vanuatua would that be a more balanced Instant Kava? I'm going to try that.

yup, you can mix all kavas. the difference won't be very significant, each one's kavalactone profile will just add up to create a slightly altered chemotype.
it works great for adding some body buzz kava to a very light kavain strain. but, in my experience, it actually tames the full experience of each strain on its own and creates a pretty nice middle-of-the-road combo of the two.

what i havent tried (but intend to), is making two full separate batches of opposite kava types...and drink shells of each one (at full potency), as I see fit.
not necessarily drinking all of both or else i'd just be doing what Deleted User01 said, and drinking double the amount.

Shakas, I almost never blend. I'm a daytimer so I will do my high Kavain Kava in the middle of the afternoon. At 5:00, I chug down something with more body effect like Hiwa, Papa Kea, or some kind of Vanuatu Kava. It doesn't serve me to blend. Too much sedation in the middle of the afternoon and I'm listenting to music and surfing the Web the rest of the afternoon. That don't pay no bills.:D
