Hi everyone, I know you all would love to see more pictures of large Hawaiian kava plants so here they are, enjoy.
This picture is a pic of Ed Johnston and I in his 'Awa patch.

Here is a nice big one in my 'Awa patch.

This is the same kava plant but my wife is next to it for a size comparison.

Here is another one of Ed's kava plants.

More large Hawaiian kava.

This is a picture of a abandoned kava farm full of Isa kava plants, they are over grown because there is not a good market for Isa, this is right off the highway on the Hamakua side.

Here is a picture of me in a wild 'Awa plant, I am the small person on the left of this kava plant.

A nice Hiwa plant.

More large Hawaiian kava with Dr Schmidt taking pictures.

I hope you all enjoy all these pictures. Aloha nui loa.

Come to Hawaii, where Kava grows wild along the hiways! :D Chris, you should get together with your local Tourist Association to kick off a campaign. You could do Kava tours and at the end of the day gather round the campfire for a few shells and some BBQ pig. :hungry: Maybe your daughter could run the tours and you and Ed could be the "Krunked Guys on the Side of the road".

Kava keeps me going.
Awesome pix! Every time I see photos of kava I get an intense feeling of deja vu! I was hiking in Kauai last year and I swear I saw plants/trees like these. A remote trail and of course at the time had no idea what kava looked like. I know it's hard to tell from the pic but I remember the heart shaped leaves

Truly great photos Chris-- I recognize many of the areas! One is the wild patch on the way up KoleKole? I think!

Hi Alia, yes you are right, the 9th picture down is of the wild patch in Kolekole. To explain a bit further for the others, Kolekole is a river in a valley on the Hamakua coast. Most of us would repel from the top of this valley and it was about 800-1000 feet high, that was fun. Most of the time I would just walk up the river for a few hrs and then I would start to see the kava patches on the sides of the valley, I could only do this when the river water level was low enough. Aloha.
