I have been working my way through a GHK micronized sampler pack and Kava Waka by Wakacon.
My first feeling from kava came from about 8 tablespoons of the Waka kneeded through a sock into water and a bit of milk. I sat and listened to music through my headphones for a few hours and felt good.
The second time was my first experience drinking the micronized Moi straight. I felt alright but ended up puking in the middle of the night.
My first hard hitting kava experience was 3 tablespoons of the micronized Moi after my power went out and I was having a bad day. This was on an empty stomach. It hit about 40 minutes after taking it and it hit me like a truck. I felt waves of... highness? flowing through me. I went to bed with my guitar and strummed in the dark until I went to sleep
I have been taking 2 tablespoons of micronized Nene for bed and have been sleeping straight through the night. Totally awesome.
Tonight I had the last of my Moi and some Mahakea and I am feeling really chill right now. This time, however, I made it with 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of water, a tablespoon of vegetable oil, and a couple handfuls of Trader Joe's gingersnap cookies- all blended thoroughly and then chilled. I highly recommend this tasty kava concoction. It is the first time in a while that I haven't chugged kava with my nose pinched closed.
So, tonight I ordered a new strainer bag and a carton of the candies. I can't wait for those to arrive.
In summary, my methods of ingestion, strains, and experiences have been all over the map. I don't know what I really like, however, the Moi stands out above the rest. I think once I learn to lend a little patience to preparation and find a method of delivery which I can stomach (the cookie smoothie!), narrowing down strains and their differences will become possible.
One weird thing in regards to tonight's experiment, my skin feels a little itchy on my face and forearms... perhaps the kava is exasperating some sun that I got the other day.
All in all kava has been nice to me. I like that I am not getting shitfaced on alcohol and passing out after acting like an idiot and I like that it does not make me feel like I am going to have a panic attack like pot does (haven't used it in nearly a decade). It also doesn't feel dirty like other substances. It allows me to chill and keep my cool.
I would not say that it makes me talkative or necessarily rids me of anxiety but my anxiety is very mild in the first place and I have never been much of a talker. Maybe this will change with different strains. The other cool thing that has happened is my desire to have a drink has pretty much vanished.
So, here's to hoping that kava remains beneficial and practical into the future!
