Kava Curious
Hello everyone! I have been creeping around the forum for about a two weeks, became a member last week sometime. I have been reading about the roots history, prep technique, personal experiences, RT, and product reviews.

I decided this weekend to take the plunge and try it out. I have GAD w/ panic so I would like to try this as a more natural path for relaxation. I hate the fact that I still have to take a sedative here and there to curb the attacks. Mindfulness, meditation, diet, and exercise seem to help a great deal but not 100%. After reading product reviews, watching the Kavassuer's videos, and weighing ease of access to get things started I ordered Kalm with Kava Pouni Ono root powder and some of their concentrate from Amazon. It will be here today. If I can get through RT with this, I would like to try some other vendors as well.

I'm going into this with an open mind and no predetermined measures of success. Just gonna give it a good go. My only real question is about new user dosing. It doesn't seem like there is a set in stone about to start with.... I was going to try and break through with two heaping table spoons of root, traditional hand kneaded per cup of water. I was planning on two cups total a day and use the concentrate on days when I don't have time to hand knead. Does that sound decent or a bit too ambitious?

Glad to have found you guys!

People often think that kava is going to be some crazy hallucinogenic experience where they trip for hours. That's not kava. Kava is a subtle, gentle root that generally requires a little more root than you would think. As that link states, you'll probably want 2 tablespoons of dried root for every half cup. Try out 1/2 cup of root to 2 cups of water, and drink a 1/2 cup of kava every twenty minutes.

That's really a nice prep page you have on your site!

Thank you CactusKava! I will take your advice! You and GHK are on the top of my list for vendors to try next. Thank you for responding!

Hi, Skitty, love the little play on words there!

Well, one reason it I wanted to get a noble kava quick and The KwK was available next day through Amazon.... Hahaha!! Most reviews said it was a fresh and clean tasting kava so that was a big plus, I want to taste the kava in its natural form but don't want to be turned off by a harsh taste, being new to it. I wanted something fairly balanced not too heavy but definitely not too heady either, I don't want to become overwhelmed and induce a panic attack. I'm trying this to hedge them off, not induce them.... Haha. I feel like I could handle a good body buzz rather than a heady buzz at this early stage.
All of the reviews I read it seemed people enjoyed this one so I figured it was a good pick for me. I will definitely keep you abreast of my thoughts on it as it plays out. I was going to try the boronguru initially but decided a more balanced kava would serve me better initially.

Ok cool! :) I will look to see if it's still available on Amazon

I just had my first shell, it is definitely an "acquired" taste... If this is smooth I would hate to taste the rough :woot:!! All in all not bad though, very earthy!!

I ended up going a tad lighter than Cactus advised. I did 1/3 cup of Puoni Ono to 2 cups water. I want to make sure I tolerate it well first. I can tell you my mouth, tongue, and back of throat went numb almost instantly. Not really noticing and other effects as of yet.

I just drank one more.... Starting to feel kind of baked, in a mild way. I am getting mild waves of warmth rushing over my body. Not sure if that is the kava or just psychosomatic feelings.
