Kava Curious
Greetings lovely forum folks,
I've been lurking here for a little over a month now and thought it was time I officially said hello. You can call me 'winder, I'm a 40-something gal from New Jersey who stumbled upon kava (and then this site) early in July of this year. I was desperately searching online for something natural to help me deal with general anxiety which has lead me to develop an increasing alcohol habit and dependence in recent years. I've tried before to cut back on my drinking with no success and had become worried I was well on my way to becoming a full blown alcoholic, like several other members of my family. Alcohol has also been affecting my health in other ways and I knew it was time to dramatically cut back, if not stop drinking entirely.

Fortunately I found my way here and after some research ordered my first samples of instant kava (from Gourmet Hawaiian Kava). It has truly been a lifesaver for me. I've gone from being someone who was putting away a 1.75 L bottle of 101 Wild Turkey a week (plus wine and occasional vodkas) to someone who barely craves alcohol at all. I basically now designate one day a week to enjoy a few drinks (no more than 2), maybe with a meal out at a restaurant. But I no longer feel the "need" to drink just to deal with the stress in my life. Kava gives me that mellowness I've been needing without turning my brain to mush. I'm more productive and alert than I've felt in years.

I'd say it's also nice to save all that booze money but now I'm a fiend for trying out and experimenting with different kava strains and products. I'm having my first taste of 11 Year Waka from Bula Kava House tonight and all I can say is::awesomesmiles::...So thank you all for this great resource for kava "newbies", especially all the information on reputable vendors and how not to get burned with bad product.

@winder, welcome to the forum sister! ::awesomesmiles:: I also use Kava to cut waaayyyyyyy back on alcohol. Like I say, it's a shame that we need any substances at all to make us feel better but "it is what it is" and so we deal with it the best way we know how. You ain't gonna miss those hangovers. As we get older, it takes less and less alcohol to mess us up in the morning.

Amazing testament to kava. Which ones do you like so far? I'm in same boat and arrived here after much research.

I think my favorite at the moment is actually the instant kava from Bula Kava House. It's very easy to drink (especially as a "newbie") and hits me very fast. Definitely a mood elevator for me...I find myself actually smiling to myself instead of going around with "resting bitch face" thanks to this one. I also really like Nene and Moi from Gourmet Hawaiian Kava. In fact I need to order some more Nene soon as it definitely mellows me out when I'm having a stressful day.

I used to be a newbie, broke RT and enjoyed Kava for a few months - used it particularly for relaxation and sleep. I've now had a couple of months kava free and just placed an order and wanted to ask more experienced members what happens now with RT? Does it have to be broken through again after a break or will I start where I left off? Sorry I should have started a new thread but couldn't work out how to do it. Stopped due to a virus that wouldn't clear up and now has so looking forward to the subtle sublime ways of the Kava experience - just hoping I don't have to try too hard to break through another RT - any thoughts much appreciated

I've taken a few months-long breaks from kava with no issues coming back to it.
How right you were - no RT issue's after just a glass. Missed this. I'd also reassure anyone who fears Kava is addictive that I stopped suddenly and felt no withdrawal symptoms whatever.
