Kava Curious
So after countless hours on net researching kava throughly... I decided to give it a shot. Partly to help me cut down on my alcohol intake.
I have always had issues with bottle friend there and he has ruined a few important events in my life. I am big believer in harm reduction so I am trying use Kava to significantly reduce its use. So so far social events only and 2 or 3 glasses of wine. So far so good.
So kava... I have tried Hawain variety most popular brand sold on kava.com preparing it both traditional way as well as blending it as well as using kava gurus method. Very little effect. To work out reverse tolerance used for a month.
Ok recently bought Borugu from Kalm with kava. currently I prepare it by blasting it with soy lethecin in hot not boiling water about 4 tbs for 12 ounces for 1 serving.Drink about 2 of those.
Do feel effects but almost always feel super lethargic and quite depressed next day. Sometimes nauseous.
One time I did about half a cup of the root and holy smokes I was sick and messed the following day.
Kind worried I am doing something wrong and causing damage.
But do not want to give up just yet.

@shuman welcome to the forums. I consume kava also to help reduce my dependency on alcohol. I've been drinking since I was 16 years, my dad was a heavy drinker and family abuser. If there is anything at all I can do to help out, just let me know.

Unfortunately kava does not have an instant effect that miraculously works. But if you're willing to put the time and effort into it I think you will find it to be tremendously beneficial. I only say this from my personal experience.

@shuman, welcome to the kava forums. ::awesomesmiles:: Ditto for the heavy drinker part. It is embarrassing and regretful to be "messed up" on special occasions and yet that is when the wine flows most freely. Double conundrum. I don't think you are messing yourself up with any of the kavas you have tried. Kalm with Kava is a good kava and well liked by many in the members, however you may not like heavy Kavas or your body doesn't react well to them. Keep going with the Headier Kavas. Try some micronized if you haven't already. I think Moi, Nene, and Mahakea should be on your micronized list. They are very different all 3 of them. And yet there effects are not overwhelming. By the way, you should at least notice that you are sleeping better. Let us know on the sleep thing.

Thank you all for words of support.
I did notice that having some food right after helps with feeling overwhelmed and nauseous.
I have been using medium ground root but what is the difference between micronized?
At the same time perhaps it is placibo effect but i do not crave alcohol as much as i would normally would being dry for about a month.
Quick question though, does anyone has a trick re straining? I have been using cloth muslin bags and they are pretty in rough in shape discolored and ripping. Plus it is a pain to wash them and i do not think it gets all the particles out as i blend it prior to straining quite aggressively.
Another thing i noticed that just one use stained my plastic blender (ninja) cup and even with washing i can still smell kava in it.
I use soy lethicin and hot not boiling water to blend. Anyone had similar issues?
Again thank you for support and replies.

@shuman Medium ground root is most often the entirety of the root ground up into a powder. Sometimes the outer bark layer is removed. It is meant to be worked in a strainer to make the resultant drink known as "grog." Micronized kava is specially ground super fine for the intention of consuming in its entirety, which is often referred to as "toss and wash." A quality micronized kava will have the makas removed, which is the indigestible woody fibers that are found in the central part of the root.

Kava can function exceptionally well to help reduce cravings for many things.

I use lingerie laundry bags for straining. They allow only the finest sediment to pass through, last a decent amount of time with aggressive daily straining, launder easily, and are cheap to replace.

Good luck with your ninja. If you continue to blend kava in it, it will turn yellow. My polycarbonate Vitamix container still bears the stain from blending kava a small number of times a couple years ago. It gets daily use, and the smell did eventually wear out of it.

Welcome to KavaForums. It sounds like you have gotten a good start with kava so far.
