Ordered Kava to the UK - mistake?

I am just seeking some advice if possible! Having been fortuitous enough to sample some Kava at a Nakamel in New Caledonia I was stunned by the relaxing effect it had on me. I work in a rather stressful environment and sometimes struggle to sleep and thought that this might be the perfect solution - and better than drinking a few beers for my health. To that end I have purchased some Kava from ‘Kalm with Kava’ who look to be a reputable US based company.

This was a Christmas present to myself however in my haste I appear to have not noticed or had some selective myopia as it seems it’s not legal to import it into the UK.

I am now concerned that I have basically wasted £80. I don’t have any experience with this sort of thing but is this order likely to slip through customs or am I likely to get a letter or something informing me of its destruction?! Will I be liable for a fine?

I am now anxious both in terms of money lost but more importantly any legal ramifications!

Guidance appreciated!

Ahh so there remains a glimmer of hope that my ‘tea’ will arrive! From my reading on this subject I now see that it isn’t a problem if it is for external use or pet supplement. I had a look at the items I ordered and it does seem to be fairly obvious from the preparation guidance on the back that it is a drink. Fingers crossed I guess!

How do I contact @Edward? I need some Kava face masks!?!

You should be fine from KWK. Everything I have ever ordered has come through no problem. If you have an anxious pet too I can supply the micronised kavas next time you need to order. Just send me a message via here.

hahaha! Kava face masks! "So your face can be as vibrant as the hands you knead kava with."

So my package is apparently as follows:
Your item was processed through a facility in LANGLEY HWDC, UNITED KINGDOM on December 30, 2017 at 8:45 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination

Does this mean it survived?! I know HWDC is the customs sorting place but the ‘item is currently in transit to the destination’ line maybe gives me hope that it is through?!?

Anyone with any experience?!

Yes, sounds like it's fine.

I got KWK Boronguru micronised and root as well as micronised vulu Waka. They are amazing. Only problem I have is the taste - which is pretty rough in my opinion. Any suggestions on how to make it more palatable?

If you really have to try pineapple juice or mango juice. One is sharp and covers the taste and the other is sweet and covers the taste. It does get easier as you go along though.

I have a fundamental question about Micronized Kava: the whole safety concerns around Kava revolve around

a) using the correct cultivars (Noble)
b) using the right parts (Roots, no aerial parts of the plant),
b) also a safe, "traditional" extraction (water extraction), to avoid unwanted substances (such as flavokain B) from the Kava Root

Then, if we take Micronized Kava, how are we avoiding the unwanted substances such as flavokain B to affect negatively?

Noble kavas naturally have a much lower content of FKB.
