Smell:
When I opened the bag I got a Fresh earthy scent (like after a rain), clay and a slight sweetness to the nose. There is also light toasted wheat/grains present.

Color: It's darker than other Tongan kava I've had. It reminds me of a glass of Ovaltine.

Taste: Two flavors dominate this kava. Equal parts pine and clay. It's a nice combo kind of like the sweet and sour or chocolate and orange of the kava root category.

Effects:
For a Tongan Kava this is pretty balanced between heady and sedative. It's got both but leaning a little more towards heady. I get the uplifting feeling, a little energy but I also get some body relaxation and slight sedation. One thing I noticed...sounds get so loud after having a bowl of this. >_>
As balanced as it is I have to say...this stuff is strong. I had to go back and read the bag again to make sure I opened the right bag. Yup...says Tongan. Man, I feel that when I get up. It gets pretty close to my upper limits. It's not much of a sleep aid but if you just want to relax on a weekend or something this will do it.
