As the Chief Mixologist on this Star Ship, the Kavateers and myself have to prepare mass volumes of Kava for the members on a daily basis. When you make drinks/food for others, then keeping things sterile is a concern. This is something that I picked up when I started home brewing. I have downsized the recipe for someone who wants to make a bunch of Kava and keep it in the fridge to have on demand. My GHK order didn’t come in so I used 2 other varieties that I had in stock, Solomons and Borogu.
Start Time: 6 AM
Start da Coffee. Make enough so you have leftover coffee for Iced Kava Kaffee Later.
Heat 17.5 oz of Coconut water (1 can) and 4 oz of water. While heating .....
Half Tab of powdered sterilizer in a ½ gallon pitcher. (Google home brew supplies for that)
Dip the strainer in there (nylon mesh for me), pull out, rinse in water and dump in the bowl.
Dip your hands in the sterilizer before you knead the Kava and do so periodically during the process.
Start First Kava
.75 cup of Solomons in the blender.
Dump 130 degree liquid into the blender.
Blend once on a high for 20-30 seconds and let it sit while you ....
Dump some sterlizer in each of the (2) 16oz bottles, shake well, and make sure you get some on the caps. Rinse with water and put them upside down to dry.
Blend first Kava again.
Dump in the bowl and strainer and while it is cooling to Kneading temperature ...
Heat up another 17.5 oz can of coconut water and 4 oz of water to 130.
Now start squeezing and Kneading the Kava.
Start Next Kava and Bottle the First
Stop kneading and dump 1 cup of Borogu in the blender.
Add the 130 degree liquid and blend once.
Go back and finish the kneading.
Pour finished 1st Kava in a bottle. Pour the leftover Kava tea in big water glass (for now).
One Down 2 To Go.
Blend 2nd Kava again.
Dump into the bowl, yup the dregs from the last batch are still in the strainer.
Knead for a few minutes, pour some more coffee to drink, and finish kneading. (Keep hands sterile before you Knead).
Pour this into the second bottle (please label the bottles) and the rest in the glass.
2 bottles down, 1 to go.
Third Wash Baby! We Almost There
Add about 4 oz of water to the left over Kava in the glass, you are shooting for 12 to 14 oz total.
Dump in the strainer, Knead and Wring till you are happy and the Kava is spent and exhausted.
Dump back into the water glass (better be one that holds 16oz). A 3rd bottle would work too.
All finished Kava goes into the fridge now.
The third wash is for the afternoon. Sometimes I sneak a cup (it’s cool already) before my cereal ‘cause I have no will power.
Clean blender, bowl, and dip the strainer in the left over sterilizer, hose it down and dry it up.
End Time: 6:40. Total time from start to finish. 40 minutes
Now go outside, put the empy coconut cans in the recyling bin, get the Sunday Newspaper, and enjoy your morning coffee.
(Do I have to tell you how to do everything?)
