I have tried a few sweeteners, some vanilla coffee cream, juice on occasion, cinnamon, tried mixing with coffee - but in the end it just layered another taste on the bitterness of kava. I even tried mixing it with a bit of my homemade kahulua (yeah I know don't mix kava and alcohol but it was just a touch for flavor). In the end none of it seemed worth it. I found it better to just slug it down. Then again the latest tongan kavas I have tried are actually quite yummy - but I still toss them back like I was funneling a beer.
