Quick question pre bed kava

Jay

Kava Curious
I'm at work now (nights), had a bit of a crap sleep this morning, just wondering if a few tsp of bkh instant green 30 mins before bed is worth bothering with? I won't have time to prepare anything properly. Would this improve sleep or help in any way?

It can help, but it can also make for poor quality of sleep. If you're the type that sleeps deeply regularly I would say try it. If you tend to be a light sleeper or have problems staying asleep I would say its more of a crap shoot. It's worth noting your success will vary with different strains. Maybe try a small amount of the instant green and adjust dosage as needed.

Why would instant green make for a poor quality sleep? Can you suggest a strain? I have insomnia aswell

I'm saying any kava can interfere with sleep if you have sleep problems.,sometimes it works wonders, but it can also make it worse. If you want to experiment use small amounts at first.

Strains with higher levels of Dhm and dhk tend to relax the body more, but I find can also cause slight hangovers and keep me running to the bathroom all night.

Just try a small amount and see if it works for you. Bkh boroguru is a nice relaxing strain.

For most people kava helps with sleep.,but in my personal experience - as someone that often has insomnia - it can go either way.

Thanks Buddha,

I have some Boroguru sitting in the drawer that I haven't got to yet, gonna try some out tonight and test it out. I find Koniak works really well for a bedtime kava

I have trouble switching off, that's my main problem. Over active mind. Is instant green high dhm?

Is there death before life?
It works for me, and Id like to think a lot of others who drink alcohol, and use kava as a sub.
People usually drink alcohol at night to help sleep also.
So with that in mind;

I find all kava helps with my sleep, different varieties create different effects "More lucid dreams, hard dreamless sleep, etc..etc"

I love the Kavain types, and find that Fu'u creates a "easier" situation to fall asleep and give really great dreams.
BKH instant green is a mild inducer, but gives for a "at ease" feeling with not being able to sleep. Which in return helps you to fall asleep, lol.
Almost like Zazen and feeling content with nothingness.
Yes the diuretic effects make you have to pee, haha
But after you fall asleep initially; when you wake to pee the going BACK to sleep is easier.

Fiji is nice.
The feeling compares to....well melting into the pillow.
I cant come up with a more poetic description, as I wish I could. But it is really great.

Remember, you will live without a night of sleep.
I think that's the best way to think. we get so worked up about FORCING sleep, when sometimes, turns out we don't sleep that night.
No big deal, we are strong.

When you cant sleep, try having some fun with your mind.
Lay still, and do not move at all.
Focus on nothingness, and concentrate on breaths.
Count them.

Either you will fall asleep,
or have some awesome pseudo lucidness/meditation

I find that kava helps me get to sleep but doesn't really improve the quality of it...and yes it leads to having to take a whiz.

I'm not certain what strain the instant is made from. I have the same problem as you. Doing a sleep study in a few months. Ive tried everything on the market and nothing works 100% of the time. I use phenibut about once a week for days when I absolutely need to sleep. But even that causes problems if you use it more than a few days in a row.

Kava has the potential to help. No doubt. Just not all the time and less can certainly be more, especially if you take it right before bed.

I have to wake at least once for the toilet when I'm on nights anyway. Have no idea why it's different on nights lol but it's like clockwork 2-3 hours before I want to wake.

Me like da kava
Fortunately for me I'm the person who has never had any problems with sleep and still don't; Kava just makes sleep that much more pleasurable. I find at times I just want to sleep the entire day away after a night of Kava because it feels THAT good. Koniak+Boroguru is a fantastic sleep-aid combo btw :dead:--for those who haven't tried it yet. I highly suggest it. For me it makes sleep almost euphoric.

whenever i see instant kavas get reviewed, it seems like its always mentioned that they lean more on the Kavain side...which is typically considered more 'uplifting'.
i recently had a VERY kavain-centric root and it seemed to wear off by the time i went to bed and didnt have much effect on my sleep at all...and at it's peak effect i only had the desire to enjoy it rather than sleep on it.
other than that strain(which i did enjoy), every kava, even high kavain strains..have helped with my sleep. i've never had instant kava though, so i can't really say.
As a naturally rough sleeper myself...I agree with other comments I see in this thread. DHM & DHK kavas like boroguru, stone, some fijians...and even melomelo seem to be better if your goal is sleep. They last through the night and keep you sedated even after the 'buzz' has worn off. But, as mentioned previously, sometimes it can also seem to mess up your sleep a bit and put you in a kind of troubled "sleep limbo" most of the night. Having to wake up to pee is also annoying but the ability to fall back to sleep immediately afterwards is a blessing. I also wake up to pee whether i'm sober or have had alcohol... but usually have trouble getting back to sleep.

Tried it last night, perked me up lol not what I needed. Weren't for long though, sleep was average. Had 6 hours. Didn't need to pee until the 6th hour. Couldn't sleep again then.
Oh well, I'm still learning what's best for me as m still new.

Drinking kava for sleep has been my mainstay for the better part of the last decade. Kava I've found will help me pull a few extra hours of sleep out of the usual 5 1/2 - 6 I get daily. I don't dream, it's blackout sleep. I have to admit though, waking up at 5:30 in the morning has never been easy....nor has it ever gotten easier, but kava definitely helps. For reference I only drink boroguru before going to bed.
