So... Hello

Kava Curious
Hello everyone. I decided to give kava another go. I tried it a few times a year or two ago and didn't experience anything. I had tried King Kava (pre-made tea) previously. I got intrigued again recently. So decided to research some more and ultimately decided to have a hand at making my own grog. I think my previous stint was a reverse tolerance thing and/or not quality Kava?

So I'm sitting here reading the forums while I wait for my GHK Kava to get here. I'm really looking for a better alternative to a benzo Rx I have for anxiety. Don't worry, I won't mix the two! One question I'd like to ask is, are there any withdrawals if Kava is taken for a medium duration and stopped? My job tends to lead to periods of high stress throughout the year. When this happens, I turn to the benzo for couple of months. The down side is I apparently have bad withdrawals even though my dose is relatively low. I hate the w/d I get from my benzo, but honestly it is worse to be without it. So I have read some things saying Kava also works on GABA and may reverse side effects of benzo withdrawal. This honestly has me worried since I don't want to replace one substance with the other. As you can see... I'm a pretty anxious person haha ::fear2::

So there's my story, and... "Hi" See you around!

Welcome aborard!

There are no withdrawals from kava. Its anxiolytic mechanism is not understood, but it does not cause addiction or tolerance.

However, benzo withdrawals are no joke and should be done under the supervision of a doctor.

Thanks for the reply. The benzo withdrawal is a serious thing and I understand that. My doctor and I have discussed it and we have a tapering method of stopping over the course of a few weeks that works well. It's just a pain in the ass. Hence my interest in kava.

@theDrizzle, welcome to the Kava Form! ::awesomesmiles:: I used to take Xanax on occasion but the next day I was wanting more. If I didn't get it, then I was looking for relief from a Bottle of Scotch. Kava is not that way. You can drop it and you won't "yearn" for it. However when you finally do it, it will feel really, really good. I have no idea when you should start supplementing your taper with Kava. That would be a good question for some of the members who "have been there and done that". I would also imagine that you will have to be on Kava for X amount of consecutive days to make sure the Benzo Addiction is totally gone. Then you can test yourself by tapering on Kava and going a few days without it after that. That's the ultimate test, can you go chemistry free for X number of days without going "bonkers".

Thanks for the insight. I actually quit the benzo a while ago with some help from another "k" plant. So no tapering anymore. But I know eventually I'll need it again. So I'd rather have something that doesn't give me issues when stopping AND not have to use the other k plant. I like that one too much. It does help with pain though. So what's the deal with the other k plant around here? I get we don't want to link the two since they are completely different, but why is it like this when I type it... K@

The K word is a bad word. We call it the word that can never be mentioned. In reality, Kava is not addictive like the K word. Without stepping on anyone's toes, @Kapmcrunk (the founder of this site), thought that the 2 supplements were totally different and taken for totally different reasons so he doesn't want the latter to be a topic of discussion here. However, we do have some members who took Kava to get over their K@ addiction. I tried both before settling on Kava. It was really no contest in my book.

Ah. I'd have to say I've used the plant whose name must not be mentioned for a month or so straight and stopped. The only side effect was constipation while on it. That being said, I can understand the founder's concern with linking the two. From what I read and know from the other one, they are completely different beasts.
