Ssri citalopram and kava

I have been on citalopram for years with recent dose of just 7mg a day

Started kava 5 weeks ago and loved it twice as a week maybe 30g medium grind

Recently upped dose of ssri to 10mg. Had normal kava (maybe a bigger than normal dose and same Friday).... Friday night was lovely .....one of best Kava sessions

Had a VERY bad yesterday .....very anxious and low mood ....very negative outlook , little appetite ,slightly sick

Did gym as normal, drank lots of water ....forced myself to eat

Feel Much better today

Storng suspicion there has been some interaction and only just coming out as I have increased both kava and ssri dose slightly

Shame as I was enjoying kava as an alcohol substitute but going to have to ditch it

Maybe check with your doctor since no one here is qualified to give you medical advice. Good luck!

I'm not a doctor or any type of medical practitioner.

I take pristiq which is a SNRI and reuptakes serotonin very similar to that of citalopram, I have had no issues with the two.in my 7 weeks of daily kava usage.

Maybe it could be your Increase in dosage to 10mg of your citalopram.

I do know whenever I started an SSRI/SNRi or increased the dosage I did experience slight side effects until my body adjusted to the dosage.

Kava is so unique that it can be taken with so many other things without many potential interactions from what I've reaserced, read and spoke to my Dr about.

(But once again I am not a medical professional and the most accurate advice will be that of a Dr)
