I like the tongan
The first thing I noticed when i opened the bag, is that it didn't smell very strongly. And to me, that's a good thing, because that means the taste isn't strong either. In fact, I think i picked up on some savory notes to the smell, which is odd considering that kava usually smells so rooty and earthy.
The grind is very nice, very powdery but also a good amount of very tiny root chips in there- and after soaking for 30 minutes it was very easy to squeeze and work with your hands without fear of ripping the pantyhose (if you use that, that is.)
Taste is so mild, and i would never go as far as saying delicious, but one thing i noticed is that i didn't shudder when i swallowed it. usually the taste of kavas are so... blech... that i involuntary shudder and pucker my face. this, amazingly, did not happen with the tongan. the taste could easily be covered up with a bit of cinnamon and chocolate syrup. it really is that mild.
The effects reminded me a bit like fiji waka, from kbr, or maybe a nice hiwa, but amazingly its tastes so much better than either of those. but it seemed more heady than body related.
unfortunately i did a big no-no and ate a meal before drinking, so i didn't get full effects. But its saying something that i did feel nice on it anyway, even after eating.
