In 2000 a study was undertaken to identify symptoms of issues best treated by kava. The study aimed for this to be 500 individuals, however the kava ban of 2002 stopped this study before it could be completed. Researchers had received results of 156 people before the study was closed.
The treatment length was 28 days.
Kava: "Kavasedon" capsules standardized to 50mg kl per capsule. Ethanolic solvent.
Table 1 lists the distribution of the individual symptoms present with at least mild severity at the start and at the end of the study. The major reasons for using kava were found to be nervous restlessness and nervous tension, followed by exhaustion and irritability.
