Kava Curious
I have some opiates with acetomenophine in them......was gonna pop a few for my session but want KaVA as well........
They are both hard on liver. Anyone ever mix the two?

Bad idea to mix kava and Tylenol. Acetaminophen is hard on the liver. Kava might exaggerate the effect. (But kava by itself is safe for the liver)

I have a few tattoos and one thing to look into is the effects of kava on blood thinning, this could prevent the artist from working on your ink. Also don't combine acetaminophen with kava.

I think most tattoo artists have numbing cream now-a-days? What are you getting done?

Also - I can't remember the podcast but there was a very reputable doctor on it and she mentioned that mixing those two (booze and tylenol) can have permanent effects and it takes very little in order to trigger the damage. She basically pleaded with the listeners to not do it, even in the morning after a long night. Just a heads up...

I'm working on a sleeve. My hand was done last night. I don't use drugs for the pain ot more of a relaxation thing. I have competition tattoos that I've drank before and during the whole session. The thinning doesn't affect me and my artist is cool with it.

Kava is actually a good local anesthetic...you could rub some extract on your skin to numb it a little. Or that might be a terrible idea, since the kava would get into your system when you get pricked by the tattoo needle. Yeah, terrible idea, don't do that. Just lidocaine cream or whatever the tattoo guy has is much better... It would probably be OK to drink a little kava to relax if and only if you don't take your opiate/acetaminophen pill with it.

I looked in the literature, and found a couple vague references to kava having anti-platelet effects, but nothing convincing. Most of the hits you get on PubMed when you search for "kava antiplatelet" or "kava anticoagulant" are general reviews of herbal medicines that talk about Ginko having those effects, not kava... If someone knows of some definitive literature on kava being a "blood thinner" I would be interested to know.

Pain I'm ok with. ...it's the relax aspect that I like.... I did hydro this time but next time I will try kava and see how it is.
