The Aluball and KWK go on vacation!

Just got back from my first vacation with kava, it was awesome! Thought I'd post up just in case anyone has ever wondered about doing the same. I took my Aluball, a fresh bag of Loa Waka from KWK and 14oz. of KWK concentrate. At the airport, after security I bought a coconut water, mixed in 2 ounces of concentrate and sipped on that during the flight. Best flight ever! If you've ever thought the concentrate was expensive you'll think twice when you watch the people on the airplane around you ordering $9 shots of Jack Daniels.
After arriving I enjoyed shaking up shells in The Aluball on the beach and finding new places to hang my backpacking hammock. It was a truly amazing trip made better by kava. I had no troubles with security coming or going and will definitely be traveling this way in the future. Culebra, it's a little spec of an island that is part of Puerto Rico even though its closer to St. Thomas. It's cheap, undeveloped and full of nice people. A true hidden gem in the caribbean (don't tell anyone ;)).

Sort of like this place ;)

The first pic is really nice, with the sun behind the aluball...

Thanks, it really is an awesome little Island. About fifty years behind the rest when it comes to tourism. Not a single building is built on any Beach by law and it receives very little tourism. It's super affordable too, if you can get to San Juan you can then catch a ferry to Culebra for only $4. The Villa we rented rents for less than a Holiday Inn in most cities.

It is nice to vacation "off the grid". Wife and I used to vacation frequently at a place called Kailuum, which was billed as the unresort resort. It was located about 30 or 40 miles south of Cancun and 5 or 6 miles north of Playa del Carmen. When we first went there in the 80s Playa was a sleepy fishing village with a few brick and mortar resorts but they where few and far between. Kailuum was far enough away and nothing was close for years. You could see the hotel lights from Cozumel across the water but that was it. Used to vaca at Coz too when we went on scuba only trips but totally different atmosphere and purpose.
Kailuum only had electricity in the kitchen area and BTW breakfast and lunch where included and the food was excellent. Also had an honor system bar where you helped yourself. The first time we went there it was around $60 a night, all inclusive. You slept in a tent with a bed and they all had thatched roofs with two hammocks in each cabana. At night the staff lit kerosene lanterns throughout while dinner was served. They would pull everything down in September through December because they would get frequently slammed with Cat 5s but by Christmas they where back open. Last time we went was in '03 and sadly the developers moved in and up went mega resorts in the ever expanding Maya riviera. Here are a few pics, first one a cabana from one of our trips

Here is a view from the hammock. Yes that is my leg:

Definitely a Paradise Lost

That place looks amazing! Did you take kava on that trip? Anyone else have a kava vacation story to share? I know Shakas had a pretty epic trip recently and I'm sure @Squanch72 didn't go to FL without some Squanch root!

A bit tricky for me to get in and out of the UK with root in tow. Oh well, going to Cornwall in June :) . It's not quite the Caribbean though...

Unfortunately last time we were there was years before I discovered kava. Had to rely on Dos Equis and Margaritas lol. I do have tons of pics loaded in our digital frame in the den of that place so I can only go there virtually downing shells now since it no longer exists.
