The Fijian Term for Kava.
Yaqona
In Fijian orthography, the letter q stands for the sound "ng" and hence yaqona is pronounced "Yangona". Reports state that the word "gona" was used on the northwest coast of the main Fijian island of Viti Levu to denote both the term "beverage" and "bitter".
