Does a book count as news? I am not sure, but this appeared to be the most appropriate forum to post under.

I am the author of The Honest Drug Book. for which I sampled and used 140 psychoactives. Its focus is specifically on safety, as in providing vital information and education. Blurb from rear cover:
People are dying because of ignorance. They are dying because unremitting propaganda is denying them essential safety information. They are dying because legislators and the media are censoring the science, and are ruthlessly pushing an ideological agenda instead. They are dying because the first casualty of war is truth, and the war on drugs is no different. This book is a step to counter this harrowing and destructive situation.”

To the point... I am copying the Kava pages below. I copy them with my thanks to this forum and its members, because I used Kava Forums intensively during the research for this particular exercise. I found it to be invaluable.

Regarding my experience of Kava itself, the report speaks for itself. It was one of my most positive experiences, and was cleaner and far superior to those induced by alcohol, for example. It is one of the handful I referenced in the final section, when asked in a Q&A about my favourite recreational experiences.

I hope that this is of interest. The book, by the way, is documented on its own website: www.HonestDrugBook.com

Thank you. :)

Thanks for sharing that. It's great that you felt good effects on your first attempt. Many are not quite as lucky.

Just a minor clarification: Kava is indigenous to Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Hawaii.

I do strive for accuracy, of course, so such details do matter.
From this information, and straight off the bat, it does appear that any future edition may at least require a reference along the lines you state there Henry. For consistency I may try to embed it into the body of the text.
Appreciated.

I skimmed a few wikipedia pages to see how this is treated. A plant apparently grew natively everywhere it was grown before western civilization discovered it. Where it was first domesticated is a (perhaps more interesting but) separate matter.

Musa species are native to tropical Indomalaya and Australia, and are likely to have been first domesticated in Papua New Guinea.[4][5] They are grown in 135 countries...
The genus Coffea is native to tropical Africa (specifically having its origin in Ethiopia and Sudan) and Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius, and Réunion in the Indian Ocean.[2]...

That's a nice (and honest) write up. One thing that might be important to mention, considering the illegality of many of the other things in your book, is kava's legal status: 100% legal in the United States, a more complicated situation depending what country in Europe you live in, but not actually illegal anywhere except Poland. Because you are talking about something that is generally not illegal, "traditional names" would be better than "street names" IMO.

Legal information is provided in the final section. However, this is generic rather than specific to each entry, largely because the legal situation is fluid and often ambiguous. The only reason I use the term 'street names', by the way, is for consistency with the majority of entries.

If I produce a second edition downstream, high on my agenda is a visit to a Kava bar. I do still have that vision in my head. It would also be nice to add more ambitious illustrations via such an expedition. I hope that I can make this happen. :)
