Just received some of the Waka a couple of days ago. So came here to give my totally noob opinion, which should probably be duly ignored because of said noobism,
.
Anyway, this kava is a little different than the other 2 kavas that I have tried, in my vast kava experience.
First of all, this kava is very course. I would suspect that anyone trying to solely use the kneading method with this, would not have too great of results. It would be like trying to knead a bag of stems and twigs. By contrast the other 2 kavas I have tried were nearly powder.
My current method is 2 minutes in my NutriBullet blender (I knew I would find a use for this thing), then strain and knead, and back in the blender for another minute.
Tonight, I discovered that my wife has a big jar of coconut oil and so I decided to add a small amount of this to the first step of my process. That really helped a lot. When I started kneading, it was then more like the finer ground kavas that I was used to.
This kava produces a lighter colored grog than what I have experienced before. Also, the taste is quite mild, it seems sort of spicy or peppery, but I don't even really need a chaser for it. It doesn't numb my mouth right away, but after about 10 minutes or so, the back of my mouth/throat is quite numb.
At first I thought, this kava is weak. But that's not so. It's different from what I've had before. The effects are slower to come on, and it's not the heady euphoric type of kava, for me, but more sedating and relaxing, and also has some analgesic effect, this is obvious. For me, this is excellent for just chilling and also good for sleep.
Also, and this is bad, and not anything I have ever done before, or plan on doing again, but it's father's day. I made a batch and drank along with 4 beers. Yes, I have sinned, but I feel darn fine!
