What are your go-to "fats" for Kava?

I've always used Kava with just water. As I've been reading up on Kava, I see that adding fats can increase the potency. Just wondering if anyone has any go-to quick recipes for Kava preparation?

Apologies in advance if I'm posting in the wrong section. I'm new here (and a bit new to Kava as well) and this looked like a suitable section.

You're in exactly the right place! Welcome aboard. In regards to fats I'll say that the members as a whole have had a mixed bag of results. Some swear by it, others find it does nothing but help kava be less drinkable. I fall in more of the later group. I initially used soy lecithin in my kava prep but found it really didn't add much. Others use coconut water or coconut milk and say it increases extraction, but can help with the taste as well. Kava by definition is a suspension of root particles in water, so there is only so much adding a fat will do when the bulk of the extraction is through agitation of kneading your root in a strainer.

^^^well I agree. I use Almond soy milk, only for the taste, but I find no deference in potency. I find its all the same. But I believe its a better more relaxing experience, if your Tea, tastes good, using almond soy milk and a few drops of key west lime juice, makes it taste like a worm smoothie. Much love.

I like to add a little heavy cream to help the worst tasting kavas go down easier, it works really well to smooth out bitterness and strong piney flavors. As far as potency is concerned, I see no difference with or without it.

I do have a place for consuming fats after drinking my kava. A small meal of fatty/greasy food a little while after usually kicks up and potentiates the effects of my kava session.

Welcome to the Forum Doc. I gave up on adding Letchin a long time ago because I couldn't spell it and it didn't seem to help. But I also use Coconut water when I make powder so maybe I am inadvertently adding fat anyway. But I do not consume extra fat in an attempt to help with the effects. There are those that do it and they swear it works. It is a very interesting topic for sure. When it gets closer to lunch, this conversation always ends up about "bacon".:ROFLMAO:

Ya, I like to eat a frozen pizza, with oily pepperoni on it, or something like that. It dose not really make it stronger, But It can make it last longer, at least for me. Much love. Roaddog....

Thanks for all your replies. I really appreciate it. My order of Stone from Nakamal at Home came in earlier this week and I figured I'd try something new. I think I'll pick up some soy lecithin after my gym session.

Just a suggestion, I personally haven't used soy lecithin but i've read reports of it making the kava a weird taste/texture. I'm actually more on the fence now about this but I'll still use coconut oil in my kava. It adds to a smooth texture and, if anything, makes it taste a little better. MCT oil is made from coconut oil and I've read that's good to use too. I'm curious to know if anyone has tried different types to see what works best for them. Let us know how it goes...

Don't know if you have looked yet or not, but you can go to The Kavapedia and see a multitude of Kava Preparations and Kava Recipes.

I was wondering about this also. Are there any chemists here who might be willing to do some research on this? It should be possible to actually measure the kavalactone levels in batches of kava mixed using different methods, right? I mean, since everyone has their own unique biochemistry and differing tolerance levels, it's really impossible to know unless someone does a real lab test of this.

I would be more then happy to evaluate the samples, be sure they stay nice and cold until I get them.

Too funny. Where I live, we use bacon grease for everything. Its the norm, when making bacon, to drain off the grease into a special container, to be used for other things, like making gravy, or Cabbage. Lots of uses for bacon grease, but its probably not very good for you. Anyway, I have tried to make my kava, with a little bacon grease. It didn't seem to help anything, but I have tried it.lol.

The medical community can't seem to make up their mind on what fat is bad for you lol. First it's saturated fat, so people start making transfatty acids to make unsaturated fat solid at room temperature, then they realize trans fats damage arteries. So then it's polyunsaturated fats, then they find out those are inflammatory. Of course neither are naturally occurring in foods to the degree you get from say vegetable oil lol. I'm not one of those people who thinks all natural is the best way to go, but honestly saturated fat has not been shown to cause any real damage in medical studies. Nothing wrong with bacon grease. Not to mention the whole low fat diet thing has been disproven. Good way to seriously disrupt your endocrine system, and who knows what else. I know during dieting I have tried lowering fat to very low levels (less then 50grams) in favor of carbs and my joints started killing me, however I have done diets consisting of no carbs except pre and post workout and the rest of my calories from fat/protein with no ill effects minus less endurance in the weight room. I think balance, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercise are much bigger factors as far as overall health goes.
