Why is kava not sold in vacuum packs?

The consensus seems to be that exposure to air and moisture is detrimental for kava storage. That being so, I am surprised that kava is not commonly sold in vacuum packs. I wondered if it is difficult because of the fine powder. So I just vacuum packed a couple of kilos into smaller bags (some root, some instant). All went smoothly.

So why not sell in vacuum packs?

Hmm...well I don't know how expensive vacuum packing equipment is but I think it would add cost.

And also the consumer is just going to open it anyways. It's not really meant to be stored for a decade, it's meant to be opened and drank.

They probably don't find the added expense worth it, no matter how small. I've heard a few times now how well kava keeps after someone pulled an old one off the shelf and it was still potent.

We tried it briefly for the International Boxes of 6+ lbs.

Seemed to work fine.

Maybe a 'Add Vacuum Sealing' option on checkout is a good idea.

Nakamal at home does vacuum seal their products. I believe it's for their storage as it is imported from Vanuatu. You could build a house from some of those kava bricks.
