Kava available in Australia

I've tried a couple of theirs although not the waka. Grind texture and flavor-wise, my fave aus brand so far. As for effects... the borogu I get almost zero, and the melo melo was among the best i've tried...so very interested to hear what you think of the waka! [the borogu could totes be a body specific thing too, I have a rather unique one when it comes to the 'norm']

I just got myself 1kg of this, Waka Kava from Australian Kava. Can't wait... :)

Anyone else tried it? Any reviews?

The Borogu being 70% stump and 30% lateral roots means it won't be as strong as the Waka which is 100% lateral roots.

But feeling almost zero from Borogu is not good, I wonder why that is?

I just tried this and quite enjoy it. The only other Kava I’ve tried was the Paul’s liquor variety and this is much more intense.

The taste is palatable and it packs a punch (again, new here, take that with a grain of salt). It’s a very strong body experience but i also feel more chatty.

I’m overall quite happy with the quality of this product.

Who remembers the time when you could buy 1 kg of highest quality kava for like $30? I remember going to Footscray Market many moons ago and picking up a nice grind there, literally cheap as dirt back then.

I wonder why kava is so expensive these days? Is it simply price gouging by sellers or has regulation of the industry meant more fees and overheads?

PSA: Our friends at Root and Pestle have just opened their Aussie shop (https://rootandpestlekava.com). The same high quality as the single cultivar range we've been stocking in New Zealand :)
I had a look through the range and was impressed. Loved the descriptions of the kava and the info available.

Ordered some borogoru and some Kelai. I have only tried heavy/balanced kava do far, so I am really looking forward to trying the Kelai and seeing what the heady varieties are like.

I will leave some reviews here once I have tried them.

I tried this last night for the first time and… wow! STRONG! Really uplifting, energising and euphoric feeling. Great social drink. Had some afterglow the next day so if you’re planning on a few shells of this, plan a relaxing day the next day. Loved it
Ooh great! What was your dosage?

Thought I'd start a thread for known sources to buy kava from in Australia, now that commercial imports are allowed. Known vendors so far:

https://fijikava.com/collections/noble-kava-root-powder

https://www.facebook.com/KavaCalmAustralia - taking pre-orders, but not payments. Don't know what the price will be, but having ordered from them before from NZ, should be comparable at around $150 per kg.

We are an Australian based kava importer/retailer specialising in traditional grind, single origin cultivars while also offering some quality blends. We currently have 8 different varieties of kava from Vanuatu in stock and available for same day, express shipment within Australia. All of these varieties are processed in a HACCP accredited facility in Vanuatu. They are lab tested there before export to ensure 100% noble quality and low moisture.

Currently, we have Kelai, Palarusal, Borogoru, Melo Melo and Bir Kar single cultivars available. We also have some quality blends including 100% Lateral Roots, Nakamal Blend & Five Star, all from Vanuatu. We have 250g and 1kg pouches available in all varieties.

I strongly believe the Kava we currently stock is of the highest possible quality and am really grateful to our partners in Vanuatu for all their hard work in bringing this level of Kava to Australia.

Just a (very quick) review of Root and Pestle Kelai.

Arrived at my doorstep just before lunch, so decided to have a small amount wbfore eating lunch.

I put 2tbsp into an aluball shaker, shook for 2 mins then had it over 2 shells, 15 mins apart.

All I can say is WOW. This was my first Vanuatu kava, and first heady kava.
This stuff is super potent. I felt it in my head, and it even left my ears ringing. Very intense considering I usually take 40-50g of traditional method kava.

It was a very nice eurphoric feeling, and evolved into a nice body feeling, which was kinda heavy too. Quite short though,.effects dissipated within half an hour.

Also tastes very smooth and mellow. Didn't need a chsder for it, which is very different from the Blue Lagoon kava which has nice effects, but that I really struggle to drink these days.

Overall , if you want to try a heady kava I would highly recommend.

I will write a full review when I have a chase to take a higher dose using traditional method.

I also have some Borongoru. Unfortunately I won't be able to try it tonight, but will try a good dose tomorrow (traditional method) and report back with that.

Great to hear, looking forward to trying some of the other cultivars.

In your opinion, which one has the mildest flavour? The original kava you stocked had great effects but I found it hard to drink because of the flavour.

At the start it wasn't to bad, but I did struggle to get through the KG lol

Welcome to kavaForums!!

Waka Kava from Australian Kava was a hit! This is now the benchmark.

Good to see offerings from Classic Kava, Kava Calm and Nesian Kava.

I would like to try the following next:

1) Vanuata Lateral Roots from Classic Kava, 1 kg for $160 and with discount code becomes $144.
Notes: "This kava is a mix of 6 year old, 100% lateral roots. Featuring a peppery taste, this kava is enjoyed by those who like a strong effect for a reasonable price. This kava is a mix of several varieties of 100% noble, lateral roots."

2) Premium A grade waka kava from Kava Calm, 1 kg for $159.99.
Notes: "Premium quality, 6.5 year old mature A grade Fiji waka kava. 100% pure, no blends and all natural, organic high grade lateral root powder. Brown in colour, smooth, slightly creamy in texture with an earthy smell and high potency. Manually pounded very fine powder, makes straining easy, quick to prepare
and little residue."

Anyone tried either of the above? What is appealing for me is that both are 100% lateral roots and priced well. The one drawback with the Kava Calm product is that the powder is very fine - which I guess could be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. I think I prefer a traditional medium grind not a fine powder.

I‘m also thinking about ordering some waka from kava calm, their starter bundles that come with the strainer bag and the bilo/s look like great value!
