We've got a captain, a few chefs, a professor, we need a Thurston Howell for procuring loads of kava

Hi Noueky - I read the thread twice and I'm sorry if I just missed it - does the bubble filter keep all\most sediment out? I'm interested in what strainers might do better than my current setup (muslin which works pretty good but is hard to clean).

Hi Idgie,

If you are straining kava root powder with the 25 micron bubble there will be pure juice "the good stuff", Chris says the Vanuatu instant is less than 25 microns I believe. So you're basically getting all the goodness and none of the undesirables with the bubble method.

I use this for kava root powder as well as mirco. I notice with the micro there is a bit of sediment, singularly if you blend with the liquefy option. However I've not had any issues doing this with GHK micro because Chris removes the makas from the micro.

Another thing I've noticed with the bubble, you've really only got to strain it once versus 2 or 3 times. It takes up to 15 min. or even 20 min. when straining a half gallon through the 5 gallon bubble. At 25 microns this really forces you to knead, squeeze, for a long time to get all the good stuff.

Oh shit, were back on topic again. Ok, @Noueky , my question is, this, do you perform a hopping auction, Like one would do If using other herbs. Meaning this, I find that if you sort of hop, or sort of shake, with a hard Upward, and then, downward stroke. I find that it pulls the larger fragment upward, on the up stoke, and allows it to remix, allowing for the holes in the micron filter to become unclogged. Then on the down stroke, the filter holes are unclogged, resulting in more filtered fluid, to flow through. I find this speeds up the process tremendously. I hope I explained that right. This is the traditional way, I was taught to use bubble bags. Of course it was not Kava, that I learned this method on. But I used to be able to run through a 5 gallon set up with 5 bags in about 10 minutes using this method. Of course we were using a washing machine for a blender.lol. But we had a lot of herbs to process. Reminds me of the good ol days. Anyway, my question is do you hop your bubble bags like I described? Much love. Roaddog....

yes, exactly as you describe. For the most part at the end when it seems there is nothing left to squeeze out I'll use that technique and boom lots more kneading to be done

@Roaddog, I get the sense that these bags are used for other nefarious uses. But honestly I have no idea what that would be. If it's nasty don't bother replying to this, but maybe PM me with the answer. Whatever the answer, a 25 micron filter bag is just a 25 micron filter bag to me, and if it successfully filters kava fiber from kava lactones, I'm good with it.

Just a tip, you'd probably want to clean these rather well after each use. Kavalactone buildup alone would eventually clog the heck out of it.

I would probably tend to want to lick the kavalactones from the bag to clear the way for more!!! :D

This is true, I clean after every use, spraying with food grade hydrogen peroxide and rinsing it under the shower

For me the bubble filters have made the whole straining process much more sane. I actually enjoy it a bit now, started straining root powder with it as well.
I've alternated between blending high speed and liquefying with the 25 micron and finally have come to the conclusion that liquefying on high is the way to go.
I also mix the powder or micro in the blender with very hot though not boiling water and have found I get better potency as well. I normally make a gallon at a time as I've got some of the bottles for storing which Deleted User01 recommended to me.

I've also purchased a bigger blender which holds half a gallon of water at a time. So I now bring a gallon of tap water to a boil and let it cool a bit, then mix half of that with kava in the half gallon blender. Knead and squeeze though the bubble micron slowly, takes about 10 minuets. Then pour the remaining half gallon of hot water from the stove into the bubble bag and repeat.

Finally make sure the bottles are sterile using food grade hydrogen peroxide and funnel the kava into the 16oz bottles

Although this is not the exact company I used, it is nearly identical and I posted this one because the company I went through does not sell them individually. The bottom of mine is now totally yellow, but I always clean it after use with food grade hydrogen peroxide.
I know this is old, but how did I miss this? This is pretty brilliant lol, such a simple tweak, but had you posted this a long time ago I wouldn't have spent so much on Fijian strainers AND I'd have absolute control over grit size. Thank you for this. I have so many of these laying around that I'll never have to buy a strainer again lol, time to experiment!
