The Emirates ban kava

It seems that the Emirates have decided to ban kava: https://en-maktoob.news.yahoo.com/substances-added-prohibited-drug-list-055440968.html

Well, to be honest I am not too surprised that it got banned there. After all, it's a country where stoning is a legal form of punishment and where apostasy is punishable by death. They also have de facto slavery and banned half of the Internet.

Yet another reason not to go there for holidays.

Ps. Interestingly enough, alcohol remains legal, albeit VERY restricted, in most of the emirates. Unlike alcohol, kava does not "lead to sin and/or conflict between men without offering significant benefits to mankind", which, if I understand it correctly (and I am by no means an expert in Islamic law), is the basis for banning booze.

^Granted, the camel molestation comment was likely conjecture or hyperbole...I think medieval is definitely fair to say.

I guess there is no use in insulting the ass-backwards countries in the Middle East. The sheiks use their country's oil money to travel all over the world where they partake in every type of pleasure (perverse and otherwise) known to mankind. They they come home and stone the first man who even thinks about it. And if you are a woman, you will probably get the death penalty.

They're no more medieval than Germany on this matter at least.
If only the act of banning kava, was what earned them the medieval moniker, the world should be so lucky.
Unfortunately much more dire social injustices and human rights violations of the region have earned them this name.

Regrettable though, a place that could so clearly benefit from the plants usage. Fill them up with kava, rather than religious dogma, hatred and fear and perhaps they could actually kick back, relax, enjoy life and gain some empathy.
oh, am I generalizing?

calling them something like that is in pretty bad taste, regardless of bizarre laws
Yeah you're probably right I went a little too far with it with the camel reference. They may consider medieval as being a compliment, however. Unfortunately we may never know because sites like these are probably banned. I wonder what would happen if someone had to transfer flights in the Emirates wearing a Kava t-shirt.

I wish the US had the conservatism of the early 1960's. The days of "camelot" 1960-'63 were the peak of this once great country in alot of ways.

America has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Rape is so prevalent inside the prison system, it's become a "running joke" on network television. When's the last time you heard about 20 people being shot/killed in one weekend in Abu Dhabi or Saudi Arabia? It doesn't happen... it does however take place almost every weekend in the summer in Chicago/Baltimore. We sure do like to point our fingers at other countries though.....
