Anybody feel like a kava meet-up in San Bruno?

Hey All, I'm in the Bay Area on work, and I'm looking at Kava bars in the area. This is likely one of the few chances in my life I'll get to visit a Kava bar, being that I'm from a pretty rural part of Michigan. I figured I'd post here and see if anyone feels like meeting up at the Kava Bar in San Bruno (http://www.kavabarsanbruno.com/) some evening this week for a shell or two. It's going to take me about 45 mins to get there via Uber, so I want to plan ahead. If no one replies then I'll just head up there on my own time.

I'd probably take the BART there. Should be cheaper and comparable in speed depending on where you are

@starscolliding went to that bar a few times, not sure if she's still active on the forum

@Steve Mariotti haunts that part of town, so maybe.... that's a possibility

I still think we should meet at kavadude's house, not because he has a tank or anything...

Well I went up to San Bruno last night! It was a bit of a long ride but I'm really glad I went. I got to meet a bunch of Fijian guys (I took a picture of us all but they made me promise not to put it online )... We drank shells out of a big tanoa on a center table and talked about kava for like three hours, it was great. They were largely unaware of all the other kava products (micronized, candies, extracts, etc.), as well as any "names" that are marketed by some of the vendors. They pretty much only drank Fijian kava and they only distinguished between Lawena and Waka (the upper and lower part of the root, respectively). I pulled out some of Chris' candies and they thought that was pretty hilarious, but the owner of the shop tried them and said "whoa man these are real kava", so that was fun. :)

All in all, great time, super, super friendly company, plus I got to grab some kava root and some coconut shells and a nice strainer bag. I would've gotten a tanoa too but didn't have enough at the time, they were authentic and pretty pricey. If anybody's in the Bay Area I highly recommend checking out Kava Bar in San Bruno. They're usually open until 11, and until 1am on Fridays.

Nope! I live in Michigan. I'm just here on work for a week, heading back tomorrow morning.
Oh was I ever wrong. Enjoy, if you have time make sure to visit fishermens wharf in S.F. From there you can climb up to Coit Tower and visit China town and all sorts of other stuff.

Thanks for the tip! :) I won't have time this trip, but I have been to Coit tower and China town before, pretty cool. :)

Just a note too about my experience last night, I know the distinction of Noble kava is a real thing, but these guys weren't really familiar with the word. They did however distinguish between "bad" and "good" kava, and they said yeah there is a lot of bad kava that makes you feel bad. The stuff we were having was Fijian Waka. It had a great relaxing but not couch-locking effect, and when I woke up this morning I was totally fresh and felt great. So I'm guessing it was probably noble, just by the experience I had.

Fwiw they also talked a lot of shit about Samoan kava, saying it was bad and gave you a hangover. Is there perhaps a higher percentage of tudei coming out of Samoa? They did know about Tudei, one guy said "yeah, you drink the Tudei, and you feel it for two days."
