Consuming whole kava root without straining

Do any of you consume kava without straining it? I don't really like the taste of kava, and have found that I get more bang for my buck by just blending kava powder for a few minutes (I usually add some coconut milk, cinnamon and stevia), and drinking it that way. It's a little more gritty than if strained, but I feel the effects a lot more, and with a lot less product. Is there any harm in doing this?

The accepted wisdom is that the fibrous part of the root that most people strain out after mixing will cause gassiness, bloating, nausea, etc. If it works for you and you don't get these side effects then you're good to go unless anyone knows of any long term health effects from consuming the whole root?

I don't have any side effects, other than feeling good :D But year I was wondering if there were any potential harmful effects.

Another effect of unstrained or poorly strained , as well as those Edward mentioned is that many people can get dermo skin and watery itchy eyes much quicker than with a well strained mix.
It might not happen if you only drink twice a week, but if you drink regularly it can creep up pretty quickly.

Daily toss and wash caused me insanely dry skin. I wish I could describe how dry I'm talking about. Legs were scaly, corners of my mouth were completely cracked. The thin top layers just came right off. It wasn't making me feel good. The sour stomach actually put me into a bad mood when I would drink it. Not what I want out of my kava. I don't really think you are doing yourself much harm if you are doing it every now and them. But consistent use is definitely really bad on your skin. Not sure what else it is potentially bad for. Your risk for headache and dehydration will increase.

Use to do it a lot. Takes some getting used to. You have access to root chips, you can also chew it like Beef Jerkey to get similar effects.
