Just got some micro from Chris at GHK for the Holidays after drinking root powder for some time and this micro seems much stronger than before. One heaping tbl spoon seems to be lasting most of the night whereas before it was more like 3.

Very nice, smooth, potent kava

Kung Pao!!!!

Dang, I can't wait to get my Micronized Honokane Iki with the new grind. I'm been tracking it since Sunday. And I'm hearing that the new instant will knock your socks off too .... assuming you like heady kavas. Chris added more lateral root and they bumped it up a few notches (not yet seen by mankind).

Is that the grind change at work?
Yes, this is the new stuff, all my kava products on my website is the new and improved version, so I hope everyone enjoys it, you should notice this kava to be stronger and even finer and smoother. I got some add on's to my micronizer that allows me to grind even finer and like Deleted User01 said, I am adding more lateral roots to the mix so that will make it more potent. Enjoy. (y)
Aloha.

Interesting stuff. So aside from the finer grind on micro and the addition of more lateral what would be new about the medium grind?

From what I understand, the Instant and the Micronized underwent some major improvements. Probably the only thing new about the Medium Grind is that GHK has a new product mix but @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava can answer that. It appears that he rotates about 2 or 3 of the 13 kavas of Hawaii about every 3 months. But he is both the farmer and the processor so whatever improvements you might want, he's certainly the man to ask.

P.S. I'm getting my order today so I will know more shortly.

Yeah...I was trying to ask him Jman...jeez! Butt in butt out! ::winkeyz:: Mine should be home by the time I get there as well. I got the ho-ho-honokane! Is that a pretty heady and uplifting kava? I got some serious cleaning to do tonight and don't want to root myself like a tree....

I had that Kava back a few months ago. Maybe more than a few months. It was very heady. That's why I ordered it when it came back into the lineup. I'm counting the minutes now. It should be here any minute. I should be slurping it within the hour unless USPS decides that "I ain't getting nuthin for Christmas". In fact, gonna check the mail now.

10 mins later. As I went outside, there was the post-woman. I got my package. I'm sipping some Honokane Iki Micro now with Ginger Ale and Lemon, damnit, we're out of lime. I can start by telling you it is very fine and not as grainy. That doesn't suck. It's going down easy and my ears are beginning to ring. More to come .... Stay tuned, same bat time same bat channel.

The medium grind is the same as it has been but the lateral root to stump ratio is higher so it will be a stronger brew like the other grinds, aloha.

Ok, more lateral root for everyone. I'm testing the Honokane Iki Micronized right now. Very heady as expected. The "Dixie Cup" test is next. I will do a review later.

Good question Henry. If it were me, I would make Kava out of it and that would be the free kava that I give out to my friends. Or maybe a "Special Stump Blend".

Yea, I think one could perhaps make a "gentle-lavena style version" of the key hawaiian kavas. I suppose some of the people with more sensitive stomachs would appreciate a milder option?

At the very least it should give it a more bitter taste, IMO. This is the price you need to pay for superior potency :)
It makes sense that those with sensitive stomachs would have more sensitivity to high lateral root as opposed to low. They could just drink less to get the same effects and it would last longer. Are the compositions which make up the lateral roots virtually the same in profile, just much more potent?

They could drink a bit less, but the point is that lateral roots tend to be generally more bitter and many people feel nauseous the moment they feel the bitterness. I guess a higher water to root ratio could mitigate this a little bit, but I am not 100% sure.

To be clear: I have never experienced any kind of unusual stomach upsets (naturally no kava in the world is 100% pleasant for the stomach) or negative side effects from drinking ANY of the @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava 's products. I have tried the new, extra potent instant and I find it not only very powerful, but also velvet-smooth and easy to drink. I had some of the new micronized and it was just perfect.

Note that I have had bad experiences with other kavas from other vendors. One strain nearly made me vomit and another one gave me a terrible diarrhoea :dead:. Since then I've mainly used Chris' products and I haven't had any problems at all. I think this is because of two things: 1) Chris' kavas are 100% pure, well-processed, well-packaged and reliable; 2) Chris' kavas are generally "heady" and most people find headier kavas to be more gentle on the stomach. (y)

However, I do know that there are some people that can get the shits from just about any type of kava regardless of its chemotype and purity. These people might perhaps appreciate a more gentle "stump root only" blend..
