I posted this here two years ago when it began showing up on social media. A couple of you were dubious, and rightly so.
I've found the original, confirming that it's a photoshop. The original was taken in Paris in 1978.

Damn I hope he still partook in kava. On another note Stephen Marley's saxophone player loved kava! I served him like 10 cups at a Stephen Marley concert. I should have gotten pictures..

It's a basket he's wearing around his neck. This pic is a bit closer, waiting to get served at the Nakamal. Still no pic of him actually drinking a shell though. Maybe we'll eventually see it on his own social media accounts. Apparently he's quite active on Instagram.

They're filming him drink kava, but probably for a "behind the scenes" thing. I believe he's there to film the Mount Yasur volcano for season 2 of the documentary One Strange Rock. Here's the trailer for season 1:
