Hello everyone, welcome to Kavachat, the kava podcast. I'm starting with a doubleheader: Mike from Kalm with Kava and Chris from Gourmet Hawaiian Kava.

If you're not familiar with podcasts, it's basically a pre-recorded internet radio show.

  • How he brought Kalm to market
  • Which of his products he prefers and why
  • Kava business and advice for importing kava
  • The forums
  • A kavachat exclusive product reveal!
https://kavachat.com/posts/kavachat-2-chris-ghk/

  • How Chris got started drinking and farming ‘awa
  • Hawaiian ‘awa culture
  • ‘awa thievery
  • His kava business, how he developed his instant and micronized technology
  • What is makas
  • Which of his kavas he prefers
  • How to obtain, propagate, and grow kava (a discussion you will want to listen to if you are getting into kava growing)
  • Hydroponically grown kava
  • And finally: how to pronounce Hawaiian ‘ava cultivars. Hopefully you will do better than I did!
Thanks again to @Kalm with Kava and @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava for agreeing to help me out and record my first two podcasts.

If you enjoyed these, please consider helping me out financially. The equipment is expensive, and by doing it like this I can write off my equipment purchases as well as any ongoing expenses.
  • http://kavachat.com/pledge - Patreon campaign, monthly contributions with rewards and bonus podcasts released when I reach goals
  • http://kavachat.com/amazon - Just buy things through this link on Amazon (or through the giant button at the top of the Kavachat site); a small portion goes to me and a small portion goes to a charity of your choice, which you can change in your amazon settings

I haven't listened to it yet on account of my being at work and currently drowning fiery Ewoks with a vengeance.
Two things are happening soon though.
1) My profile picture will change back to it's natural self.
2) I am supporting you financially through one of my offshore accounts.

The reason for this is in the screenshot below.

Great podcast with Chris! I still have to listen to the other one, but I am sure it is interesting as well.
Regarding hydroponic method, I grew awa in Seattle in my house for a year, using the simple wick system, and it grew really well. Unfortunately I had to move and so couldn't let it grow past one year. I used 50 percent perlite and 50 percent vermiculite mixture, and can't remember what the solution mixture was. Also for getting the cuttings to sprout this method worked perfectly, with almost 100 percent success.

Just finished the second chat, both are great! I'm really looking forward to seeing who's next. Thanks Chris for pronouncing the different Hawaiian varieties, turns out I had almost every one of them wrong!

Hey, have you guys considered registering your RSS feed with iTunes? I usually listen to podcasts on the podcast app on my iPhone, and I just searched for kavachat and couldn't find it... it's a pretty simple process, if you have the time to do it. Here's some more info:

Did anyone else notice that Chris Allen has not been to mainland USA? About 39 minutes in.
Bravo Chris. That is remarkable!

For anyone who's unclear on the Patreon donation system set up for this, the amount you type in is only taken if another show is released that month, you can also type in a pledge limit per month, so if 2 shows get uploaded but you've entered "1" as your monthly limit, you will only be charged your pledge amount once, for one of the uploads.

If you wanna donate a one-time shot, you can can just enter your full amount and a monthy limit of one, then if/when the next show is uploaded, it will take your money, and then you can cancel your pledge after the card has been charged.

Darn. Would've loved to listen at the time it was aired. I love this idea. What if we made some YouTube videos promoting/advocating the safety and effectiveness of Kava as a natural anxiolytic, providing evidence, facts and commentary? There really aren't very many informative videos on YouTube regarding Kava. Just throwing it out there. Hope I'm around to catch the next podcast.

So cool! I've been wanting to start a Kava podcast for a long time. But it looks like the gap has been filled. More fun for me :)
