I didn't get a chance to meet up with Lebot this time around to discuss further but there are at least 3 variations for the general term Borogu/Borogoru/Gorgor. It makes it very difficult to sort out with each island having different names for the same cultivar and add on the fact that many Kava gardens are a mixed variety of Noble plants often sold together as Borogu.
The most prevalent is white Borogu which we and most other vendors simply label as
Borogu. This is found abundantly through Pentecost and Ambae because it's a good Noble variety that grows fast and is resilant to pests. The 2 other cultivars are what we have come to know as Boroguru and
Borongoru. These are distinctively different cultivars from the white Borogu with noticeably different effects, often times more heavy and from the same islands. It seems most vendors have done good job separating these out as offerings and they are actually very difficult to find. Our Borongoru has been sold out for about 3 months because we bought everything the village we work with had that was old enough to harvest. We did find a neighboring village though that had the same Borongoru which should be delivering in about 2-3 weeks.
