Gourmet Hawaiian Kava

Kava Expert

Hi everyone, here is a bunch of pictures for you all to look at. They show a lot of what I do to grow and process kava. This is by no means detailed but it is nice to look at. If this does not show I do not have a farm, I really don't know what to say. Please enjoy the pictures. This post is for enjoyment not for accusations or false allegations. Aloha.

Beautiful, Chris! These were the pictures I remembered from previous threads. By the way, how many new plants (from cuttings) do you obtain when a big kava plant is harvested? Looks like a whole bunch of new baby kavas are born!
Aloha!

Thank you. As a legitimate customer I sincerely appreciate that you decided to post these nice pictures. For the record, I never doubted you (I've always said you can't fake terroir) but this just cuts all the nonsense off at the knees. It's also important from an advocacy perspective, given your unique position as one of the few USA grown suppliers. Its important to the world of kava that these pictures be seen imo and not because you are "proving" anything. It's more about education, advocacy, and outreach which is sorely needed and much appreciated. So thank you again. The globalized world of kava is better off because of this

Also for the naysayers who don't think a single person can run a farm, I personally know a couple farmers and ranchers who run their entire farms or ranches with the help of family and friends AND have full-time jobs. I don't know the intricacies of growing Kava, but it's crazy to use that as "proof" or even evidence that Chris doesn't grow his own Kava.

Clearly friends and/or family are helping out here. In fact some of those folks in addition to Chris look kind of familiar.

Obviously Scooby and the gang are helping out on the kava farm. (And apologies to whoever that dude actually is :) )

Seriously though how strong is Kava root? Like the actual plant, could you make a walking stick out of one? I'm not even kidding, bad part is my staff would never survive the journey without me eating it.

kilakila

Kava keeps me going.
I distinctly remember Chris saying he has patches of land scattered in various locations - not one huge parcel of land. Still to me and to most people, it doesn't really matter. And it should not matter. He obviously grows kava, grinds kava (on a beautifully shiny machine!) and relies on good friends and family to help put. You know, that's really traditional Hawaiian "Ohana". You're always someone's auntie or uncle - related or not. I'm also sure that GHK would be considered a small business - the demand for kava is high but not as high as cash crops - think corn or wheat or sugar.
Personally I'm happy to see that GHK is small, local and free from anything resembling "Big Agro". Keep farming Chris and ohana!

I think what you are not understanding is that Chris does not plant his kava in a giant field like corn, with rows and rows of plants. He has a lot of land, and spaces out the plants to maximize the growing conditions. We discussed this in another thread, remember? You aren't going to see a giant field like in Tonga, because Chris uses a different style of growing. If you had access to military satellites and took a picture of his land, you would probably just see a lot of trees. That doesn't mean there is no kava. You recall that Chris used to own a tree/lumber business, with lots and lots of land, right? I just really don't understand why you continue to hammer away at this, especially since the rules here about disparaging other vendors have been made clear to you. [Edit: this post was replying to a comment that has apparently been removed... so if it appears I am talking to no one and not making sense, that is why...]

For a kava plant that size we get about 400 cuttings. Smaller size plants will give us less but we still get over 100 cuttings most of the time.
Aloha.

PepperyPyrone

I'll have the pyrones with some pepper, please.
This would be a great SNL skit, maybe we could get Alec Baldwin in on it.
"But I just showed you my kava plants, see we were planting cuttings and grinding root."
"Wrong."
"Yeah but look here are more pictures of some of the largest kava plants on the planet."
"Wrong. One hundred football fields."
"See that's me digging up a root ball the size of a mini van."
"Wrong."

All joking aside, Chris keep doing whatever it is you do on a daily basis and keep that wonderful root in stock for all of us to continue to enjoy. If anything I hope that all of this, the attacks and false claims against you have given you a lot of free publicity and business out of it. I am planning on placing another big order, because all that this has made me want to do is drink a lot of your Hawaiian awa, and man it is sooooo good. Keep grinding !

That reminds me that I need to buy more honokane iki. I flew through the last bag I bought. I'll be sad if it goes out of stock
