Best schedule/type for using kava and doing daily exercise?

Hello all: wondering if anyone has a kava schedule or type that works really well with an exercise schedule. I am probably just being lazy, but have sometimes cut-short workouts due to what seemed like residual kava effects; or just didn't start working out either because of residual muscle relaxation or because I didn't wanna waste my morning empty stomach and went ahead and ingested kava in the morning. It is tough for me to start an exercise program in general, but kava seems to be making it feel next to impossible for me.

Has anyone come up with a system that works well? Preferably including both strength training and cardio and including kava consumption at least every other day (if not every day)?

I like to "earn" my kava by working hard during the day and having a strong session once the sun goes down. As long as I have a few shells every night, the long term benefits last all day long without needing to chug AM kava.

There are daywalkers among us who drink kava in the mornings. It's some kind of advanced Fijian kungfu technique. While I admire it, that's not the approach I usually go for.

I recently started working out again after a long lay off. My routine is basically as above, work all day, go to the gym in the early evening and then get home and chug some shells. I don't normally eat after kava so I'm probably not getting optimum post workout nutrition except for the milk in my kava but I'm making some gains so something is working. I also find that I feel good most of the next day after kava the previous evening. Heavy kavas seem to linger for longer, maybe review the kavas you're drinking. If you're currently a daytime drinker then I'm guessing you're drinking mostly heady?

when i wake, i have a cup of java then do about 45min to 1 hour workout with 1 to 2 bottles of water.

When done, I have my morning shell of kava, then eat breakfast.

in the afternoon i go for an hour walk and sometimes have a shell of kava at one of the local restaurants here.

When my day is not sabotaged by life/kids - I get home from work, change, work out for ~40 minutes and then decide based on how many places I have to drive my kids my evening kava schedule. If I got nothing going on I will start 20-30 minutes after exercising. I have seen no ill effects of this, but I do wonder if Kava's anti-inflammatory response actually hinders my recovery....but not enough to stop drinking it!

I exercise in the morning which wakes me up from my fuzzy headed feeling that I always wake with. Then I only ever drink kava after about 4-5pm. The two have never mixed well for me..the last thing i want to do when drinking kava is exercise, even mixing a second bowl is a struggle sometimes, but we're all different...

You absolutely just have to see what works best for you. There’s no inherent reason that Kava cannot be mixed with muscle building and regular cardio. Finding the right routine is the hard part. You mentioned drinking Kava in the morning, try it later in the day or at night. I’ve even made protein Kava shakes before that weren’t too bad.

My daily eating schedule is essentially intermittent fasting. I was a bit suprised when it became a fad since I’ve been doing it for years. I can get all my nutrition in and still have an empty stomach to enjoy Kava every night. To each is own though.

For What It's Worth Friday the gym after a bit of Pouni Ono, and today walking wored well. But then i also had a bunch of water today and friday alon with what ever else I might want before the gym.
I don't think a relaxing kava would be a good idea though

Doug: How is it OK for you to bully Ben?
Jonah: 'Cause he's a ranga.
Doug: A what?!
Jonah: A ranga, sir. 'Cause he's got red hair. Orangutan, that's what we call them.
Doug: And does that make it OK for him to be bullied, because he has red hair?
Jonah: Well, people are racist to FOBs...
Leon: To us.
Jonah: So... so we can be racist to rangas.
Doug: But redheads aren't a race, Jonah.
Leon: But, sir, there's heaps of 'em. They're everywhere!

I can't work out worth a darn if I've had any kava that day. It just makes me want to sit and go
"aaahhhhhhh", not work hard at anything at all. I have no "push" if I have kava in me.

Even after a heavy kava session the night before, a morning workout isn't very good.

I am also an intermittent faster, but I do 10pm to 12-2pm, depending on what I have going on. (I work out fasted in the morning, with BCAA’s in water.) I can’t see myself staying up until 1am to have kava on an empty stomach, so what about before dinner? That’s when I would usually have a glass of wine, while cooking dinner and/or with dinner. Is that a good time to drink kava instead? Do you need to wait a little while afterward or can you eat dinner right after? I’m on a Keto diet, so my two meals have a good bit of fat in them (I eat about 100g of fat a day).

If you wanna try kava and that's your schedule, I would just try it; nothing to lose but some efficiency. I would think if you drink the kava before you eat you should be more or less okay.

Yeah! This! Even the day after heavy kava I find that I tend not to feel the drive to exercise. Given my propensity to be lazy, I need that drive. But then even (the day after heavy kava) when I manage to start cardio, it almost feels like the kava kicks back in and after 10 minutes of cardio, I just wanna be done. Same with strength training; I feel that residual muscle relaxation and am suddenly like "I don't have the control over my muscles I should have; I will just work out 'tomorrow''; of course, this process just keeps repeating itself, cause I keep drinking kava.

I train to compete at a high level in triathlons of various distances, up to Ironman. I drink kava daily, but usually try to do my more difficult workout of the day (I usually do two workouts per day) before any kava, otherwise I don't perform as well.

A couple years ago I started realizing that in some races I wasn't performing as well as my training suggested I would. Legs would feel tired on the bike leg, and my power output, measured in watts, would be about 20% lower than my expected target race power. After some experimentation, I'm 90% sure that this was caused by drinking kava in days leading up to the race. I was drinking noble kava, but even so I feel like it was taking some "oomph" out of my legs. I now don't drink kava for three days before a race. One day would probably be fine, but better safe than sorry.

So moral of the story is that for me at least, physical function at an average level is fine with some kava in the system, but if you need to be at your strongest you may want to take some time off.

Be aware that a few months back on the forum someone indicated that drinking kava routinely kicked him out of ketosis based on his testing.

I actually just came across that post earlier today. It was very interesting. I’m going to purchase a blood ketones kit so I can test myself.

Let me know how it goes. I am interested in starting up keto in ~month. Been hitting the carbs and weights heavy for the past few months and will need to cut back before summer hits. Never tried a full keto diiet (I typically just cut calories and carbs). Good Luck!
